Non-Hockey Chatter / Re: Remembering Mr T
« on: August 04, 2013, 02:40:05 PM »
As a long time Leaf fan, I was a regular visitor to this site long before I became a member.  I don't post often but I still usually visit at least once a day.  It was the passion of certain members which finally convinced me to go ahead and join so I could actually take part in conversations from time to time.  While I'm not posting often, please take no offence when I say 'we' have lost a great friend.  My condolences to the family.  May 'T's' memory live on not only through our memories but also through our 'MOTM'. RIP Mr. T

Marlies & Prospect Talk / Re: 21st overall - Frederik Gauthier

I believe I heard the day of the draft that this was his rookie year having played midget last year while deciding between NCAA and the Q.  I also think it was Craig Button who compared him to Jordan Staal.  Overall, I think I'm willing to see if the offense comes along.  Not to tangent...but during the draft, I was hoping Carolina's want of D would lead us to acquire the number 35 pick if, ironically, JT Compher were available.

I know it's the equivalent of tabloid journalism but Eklund is suggesting the Oilers are looking for a big name D-man and may be looking at Phaneuf.  His speculated return is Sam Gagner.  Out of curiousity mixed with the absurd chance that Eklund gets something right... say these two names are involved.  What else may need to be added in order to also flip the 21 for the 7 and have a chance at someone like Monahan or Nichushkin?

By then Dougie Gilmour will have learned the ropes in Kingston, done 3 years as assistant to Nonis, and will have pulled off a blockbuster trade that brought Crosby and Malkin to Toronto.  He is the obvious choice.

^ This!  Obviously... I would expect nothing less!!

Leafs Rumours & Speculation / Re: Burke using depth to go shopping....
« on: February 27, 2012, 01:52:51 PM »
I'm gonna go along with Ray Ferraro on TSN and say Burke might be playing some poker here with other GM's right now. There still may be a deal in works for Toronto.
Poker might draw bigger ratings than this years trade deadline if things don't pick up soon

They might have to consider changing trade deadline day to trade deadline hour for next years broadcast.
But then how will Marty McSorley get any love from the guys having lunch at RealSports?

Here's a question for all of you watching TV in Canada: what, exactly, are the trade deadline shows talking about right now?  It appears only one trade has been consummated so far today.

So much filler. So much. I've stopped really paying attention.
Don't forget - one of them did have that fascinating story about the Andy Bathgate trade from 40-some odd years ago...riveting!

Figured this was the place to put this, someone can move it if not.  Good on Paul Gaustad for his response to Jordan Tootoo last night.  Loved the fact that he jumped right in the defend his goalie and then took it to a whole new level in smack-talking Lindbeck afterwards too!

And btw, Marlies have new leading scorer - Marcel Murller - who has considerably improved over his rookie season (21 pts. in 20 games so far). Kadri also got a point giving him 20 pts. in just 16 games.

Apparently Mueller has decided that December's AHL Player of the Month award should go to him ?

First day of grande 3! I'm not sure how other school boards like to do it but ours generally likes to seperate twins. Mine were kept together because their teachers and principal didn't see a need to seperate them - until now. This should be fun.  ???
There are twin girsl in my daughters grade - in the 5 years that we have been at the school they have never been in the same class!
I'm a little ticked off this year as there are virtually no other kids that she is close to inher class - separated from all of her friends. Good thing she is better adjusted than I am!
We actually spoke to the teachers in my kids school a couple of years ago.  My son seemed to always be in a class opposite his two best friends who were always together.  We were told they had more dominant personalities and they wanted the leadership abilities of ours to have a chance to grow so they separated them.  He graduated with straight A's on the honour role and started high school today.  Hopefully your daughter's teachers simply see a future class leader they want to groom.
Good luck to all parents dealing with the difficulties of hearding their children off for another year!

speaking of future draft eligible players.  I seem to remember Martin Frk being highly touted.  I think he was playing in the Q last  year but being Slovakian (I believe), he may have gone home to better his chances of playing for their World Junior team.  I remember when the games were in Ottawa, being told that they like their team to play together for the season. The Hockey News at one point threw out the name Cam Neely as a comparible

I haven't posted much recently as my wife miscarried with twins while she was at 10 weeks; the site looks really good & it's great that you're back Rick.
Sorry about your loss Anton.  While my wife has never miscarried, the receptionist at our doctor's office did tell us almost 14 years ago that we had.  A very rough 24+ hours until the ultrasound told us differently. ( As an aside, that baby started high school on me today )  I hope you and your wife find yourselves blessed with a child soon.

So with Rivera being dealt for nothing, we are only a Francisco removed from Wells being dealt away for nothing which, when you think about it, is really something of an accomplishment.

The best part is, knowing the Dodgers and considering the fact the Jays sent cash along with Rivera, the Jays could actually end up with a prospect much better than trading Rivera should ever return.

Could the PTBNL or cash considertions become the $175,000 the Dodgers are paying over the remainder of the season or is there a realistic chance there could be an actual return in exchange for opening up a roster spot and a 40 man spot?

for the record 45-36-11 equates to 90 points over an 82 game schedule
