I said it earlier but I'd be intrigued by it. Obviously he doesn't replace Hyman but it would be interesting to see what sort of scoring touch he could show.

At the right price, for sure. Although I just listened to that part of the podcast and Seravelli followed up that statement by saying he guessed Ritchie could get over $4mil on his next deal, which is a lot pricier than I would have thought.

Yeah, true. Although for me it's almost as much about term as it is price. If the going assumption is that the Leafs' remaining cap space will be spent on a forward then I almost don't care how much of it goes to someone on a one year deal.

I'm down with it.  He adds so much needed size.

This is what kind of pisses me off about that Kampf signing at too much money...that extra $750K would be useful in signing a guy like Ritchie.

In my defense, they're over the cap...but I do like the signing and the cap hit on Ritchie.

There is still some work to do, but tooling around on CapFriendly's roster builder: this comes in at 80.2M (1.2Mish in space)

Nylander - Matthews - Ho-Sang*
Bunting - Tavares - Marner
Ritchie - Kampf - Kase*
Mikheyev - Spezza - Anderson*
Engvall, Simmonds*

Muzzin - Holl
Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - Dermott
Liljegren*

Mrazek
Campbell

Trade: Kerfoot --> Seattle for Luke Henman and a 3rd (or less, whatever)

* Kase, Ho-Sang are questionmarky for health and prove-it reasons. Engvall and Mikheyev can swap in if those two don't work out and push other options around. Engvall can spell Spezza for the odd game or two vs Buffalo; Anderson and Simmonds can flip in and out. Rotate the bottom-pair defense around. Liljegren could be Brennan Mennell instead, whatever.

Only because CapFriendly has them with 15 Forwards and a 23 man roster. They are cap complaint with a 21 man roster.

I'm not sure if your faith in Ho-Sang is admirable or sad.

https://theathletic.com/2748958/2021/08/04/why-the-maple-leafs-hired-dean-chynoweth-as-assistant-coach-he-doesnt-accept-the-status-quo/

So Keefe has found his new bad cop -- accountability stick, if you will -- but one who doesn't get emotional or personal about it. The return of some of what made Babcock effective with some and hated by many, many others.

It's not really in this story, but I'm guessing based on the profiles of the hires, the primary responsibilities will roll out like:
Dean Chynoweth: Defense, PK
Manny Malhotra: Bottom-6 (make sure nothing happens), 5v5/6 lead protection
Spencer Carbery: Top-6, PP
