This: Dubas and Keefe get one more year. Gotta lose Jumbo, Simmonds, Souperman, trade Rielly for a good return,  expose Holl in the draft, keep Dermott.  Hyman can stay at the same money.  Engvall is a keeper, so is Campbell but we need a 1-A, 1-B tandem and Freddo has to go.  Would be nice to get Seth Jones .
Sandin, Robertson and Joey Anderson all deserve some time.  The only old guy I would keep is Spezza.
I'm keeping Souperman. I know his offence is nothing to write home about but I think he bounces back in that department. He's also a very good defensive player that doesn't cost much. i would like to see Liljegren next year also. I think it's time for him. Freddie or similar at 3 mill max would be ok in my books on a short deal. Not sold on Jack being the guy. Not sure he can stay healthy enough.
What is a good return for Rielly? Who you giving up for Jones? I find it curious that this is the best defence we've had in years yet you have no issue getting rid of 2 of the top 4.
I like Souperman a lot but he lost the scoring touch he had when his wrist was sliced, if they keep him I hope he can turn it around. Holl is not as good as Dermott in the long haul. Rielly is still worth something so trade him now, I can't see paying him or Hyman more money.  Thought Jones was a free agent, guess I was wrong.  I can see a D consisting of Muzzin-Brodie, Sandin-Dermott, somebody and Bogo.
I agree with you on Jack, may end up being 1-B but they need someone who can stop the soft goals in the playoffs.
I was actually happy with Dermott this season. Don't know if the Leafs will want to give Holl away for nothing. I can see Liljegren being with the big club next year. Moving Rielly would be a bold movebut it's up to Dubas to find out what he wants and if they can't sign him for a reasonable hit, they have to move him. Dreger is now Hyman's agent. Heard him on TSN saying the Leafs would be comfortable in the 4's. I'm like I sure hope not. It should be an interesting off season to see how they tweak the roster.

Dubas' press conference
Oh no, Dubas has a different tone in regards to Marner. He must be trading him now. I've heard Dubas say many times, the fans are allowed to feel the way they feel. Just because he didn't defend Marner to the level he did last year doesn't mean much to me. He would look like an idiot if he did when it's clear he struggled.

Remember when we came out of the 2005 lockout, and one of the big exciting things that came out of it was the "zero tolerance" on things like clutching and grabbing and holding that was meant to open up the game for the skilled players.

And what "zero tolerance" meant was pretty much "calling the rules". But because players had got SO used to being able to get away with hooking a stick under someone's arm and waterskiing up the ice behind them there were gazillions of penalties in the early games, but, I think we'd all agree that the game now is in general much more watchable and exciting and skilful than it was prior to that?

Do we need something similar to happen in the playoffs? I get having more intensity and physicality and I enjoy that, when done correctly. You can have that without having the type of playoff game we're watching which is just basically a reversion to pre-2005 hockey.  (I've only really watched the North Division this year so maybe the others aren't as bad?)

I think the biggest issue with the "we aren't going to call stuff" is that 90% of the penalties they end up calling still end up being minor calls...at least relative to other stuff going on in the game.  Pierre Engvall getting called for a hold minutes after Montreal does the exact same thing multiple times tells me that the refs aren't ok with interference...just most of the time they are content to ignore it.  If you don't want to call intereference in the playoffs...then take it out of the rulebook.

I hate the idea that the puck over glass penalty is now the only penalty that gets called 100% of the time.  I don't think you should have every other rule be a grey area but that is a for sure call.  I'm still of the opinion that it shouldn't be a penalty when a team can just ice the puck 15 times in a row and then drag the faceoff out for a minute and a half by intentionally getting thrown out or lining up inappropriately and the linesman fiddling around for 45 seconds himself.

He makes some good points. Marner plays in all situations, and does so fairly effectively. His defence of Marner is valid IMO.

On the other hand, he knows of 10.8 million reasons why Marner gets ragged on the way he does. He just can't admit it.

And according to Justin Bourne, Dubas would be plenty pissed losing but he keeps that private.

Martin Marincin started with the organization in 2015-2016.  Over that time the organization has not won a playoff series.  Dubas has fixed the flaws with the team!
