General Rumours & Speculation / Re: Armchair GM 2021-2022: Catharsis

I like your line up...Ullmark would be our #1...would love to get him at that price..line up looks good. Dubas will have to do some kind of deal with Seattle to keep the top 4 D men as 1 of them must be made available because as if now, we only have 4 that meet the requirements. Same with forwards. Kerfoot and Engvall with the big 4 are the only ones. I think Dubas leaves Holl unprotected and will go with Dermott if he gets taken.
Also agree that I think Hyman is gone. Leafs simply can't afford him.
Good job an great explanation.

Really at no point in the series did the Leafs play a game where they dominated the Habs in any meaningful way but were let down by their goalie and lost.

OT. Game 6.

Leafs Shots - 13
Habs Shots - 2
Mic drop....lol.

Is Chychrun actually available?
I don't think so because he's 1 of 3 D men signed for next year, but you never know.

Boston writer has opinions on how to fix the Leafs.
Johnny T can't be traded and Nylander is a keeper.
Anybody can be convinced to be traded. NMCs only mean that a player needs to agree to it. If the right deal comes along, I would trade anyone.

Thoughts on this series

Good:
- Campbell was largely good and truly did enough over the course of the series to give the Leafs enough of a chance to win, which is quite different from previous years

I agree with most of what you had to say except this part. I feel that while Campbell made some good saves, he didn't stop the shots that he had to. That is not "giving a team an opportunity to win." I can think of at least 3 very critical goals that an NHL playoff winning goalie cannot let go into the back of his net. I realize that I've brought this up a couple times, but I don't think it's getting enough attention in the media. I get that Jack is a super nice guy and a real good teammate, but that means nothing when you lose game 7 after being up 3-1. Was he the sole reason they lost? Far from it. Matthews, Marner, Tavares injury, Muzzin injury, Foligno injury, the Leafs inability to change their game style are all contributing factors, but Campbell could have righted that with a couple "ordinary saves" when the team needed them the most.
There's big issues with the five hole goal from the top of the circle from Gallagher in Game 7. The 5 on 3 goal short side when all the Leafs needed was a stop. The deflected goal in OT after the Leafs outshot the habs 13-1. Those are the killers. Those are the goals/saves that mean the difference between a first round loss and a first round victory. If the Leafs go into next season with Campbell as their starter with no plan B, we will be having the same conversation next spring.
Totally agree with you even on the 5on3 goal. I counted 6 he should have had and that he  wasn't good enough. The 2 scramble goals in game 5, the GWG of gm 1, the Suzuki goal in gm 2. The gm 7 was the killer though. The team was fragile and absolutely needed that save. The Leafs need to get themselves a 1a guy because Jack isn't the guy to play 40+ games and I think this team will be in big trouble if they go that route.

I can hear the backlash on this already but ….Nylander for Eichel straight up.

I'm not sure there's a ton of backlash coming your way outside of Buffalo not being willing to do that.
That's a no brainer for T.O minus the money. Leafs need to add like Nik says. I would trade Marner for him and Buff may not go for it.

- Matthews and Marner were too easily shut down

With Marner not scoring it was imperative, if he wasn't going to break them up, that Keefe put a winger with them that was actually a threat to score, he didn't. Habs only had to focus on Matthews.

Wonder where Kadri's playing next season if Colorado loses this one.
Maybe Seattle? I doubt Colorado protects him and they need to shed some cash with Landeskog, Makar, Yost, Grubauer due big raises.

F yeah!
We're getting there! Hopefully we pivot to greater proportion for 2nd doses soon.
They've done most of the 89 plus group and now are on to those who've been vaxed up to April 18. I think the majority will be done by August.. they're in a big hurry now because of the variant out of India. 1 dose is only 30% effective so they're worried about another wave

That's the one everyone's going to talk about. Not sure how they'd ever make that happen.
Eichel is the only one that would get me excited that I can think of but it's going to cost you Marner. Not sure how Id feel about trading him..

Can we sign him then not protect him and Seattle take him?
Yes as long as he doesn't have a NMC or of he does he waives it. I don't see him getting signed before the draft.

Add in Boston the year before. I know he was hurt but if you're playing you need to do something. No excuses when you're in the line up.

Injuries are also starting to become an issue with Hyman.
And the body isn't going to get better as he ages.

I'm not sure you'll convince someone who scores at the same rate as William Nylander to take half as much money.  :-\

Well then you say goodbye...I'd rather pickup two 2.5 mill guys then pay him 5 mill...
Ya I agree, Zach may be having another 2 good seasons and then I think you start to see his best before date. Against Columbus and Montreal, he did not impress.

Got my 1st shot today (Pfizer). woohoo!

My shoulder feels like it was shot with a handgun. Normally I only get a tiny bit of soreness from a vaccine, but this is pretty intense. Should be good in a day or two!
You'll be good. Enjoy the sleep because I was pretty tired soon after!

Feeling good today! The more I move my arm, the better it feels. No tiredness (well, not vaccine-related, I did stay up until 2:00 watching TV and destroying young teenagers in NHL 20).

bad news is: because I'm feeling just fine, I couldn't get out of doing work, so the wife is making me change the rear shocks on her van in the driveway in the heat and stupid humidity. I am now covered in dirt and WD40
Haha....I gave you an out! Good luck...
