Much-maligned Martin Marincin makes masterful move.

He was better than he got credit for.
For the Marlies.

lol. At least Kadri feels remorse for costing his team playoff series'.

Is it remorse though if you keep doing it over and over and over?
It's stupidity.

We really want Jonathan Bernier back?  Really?

I wonder if we were a little harder on Bernier than we should have been. He had seasons with a .922 Sv%, 0.912, and then 0.908. And that worst year came during the tank-for-Matthews season so there's really nothing he could have done there. His save percentages... career, since the trade, and in the past couple seasons are pretty similar to Andersen's. And he's coming off a particularly good season with a bad Detroit team. He's not the top starter the team thought he might be when we acquired him all those years ago but he's rebounded as a pretty solid 1B type guy.

Not saying he'd be super high on my list since he might someone who has trouble playing on a team with a crazy fan base, just think he's a little underrated is all.
Reimer started 7 less games, had 1 less win and 9 less losses...his GAA was 2.48 to Bern's 2.88 ad his Sv% was 918 to Bern's 908 so he wasn't that good.
Hard pass on Bernier.

No...Freddie before him. I'd like Driedger or Ullmark but he's going to cost some money.

And he def cost Wpg a chance at winning the series. Wonder what Kadri is going to say if Col gets knocked out.

My wife and I are getting our 2nd shot, will be Mrna either Moderna or Pfizer on the 26th, a Saturday, I noticed on the BC website that these centres are open every day. What a roll out, gotta say Canada has impressed me after a slow start.
For sure, they really turned it around. I heard today that people who've been fully vaccinated will no longer have to quarantine when they return from travel.

You're correct that finding someone that can come in on a 1a/1b rotation may be the best method or for that matter, the only method. But don't we already have that guy in Andersen?

If he ends up getting paid more like a 1a/1b goalie (by that I mean $3-4mil) I wouldn't be completely opposed to bringing him back. Depends what else is available.

Personally I think he sees the writing on the wall and will be looking elsewhere. Edmonton?
I think EDM or maybe Philly will pony up to get him.

If you could get Freddie back at under 4 on a 2 year you'd def have to be interested. Should be interesting after the drafts.

To LAK: Mitch Marner (signing bonus paid, 4x 10.903M), Morgan Rielly (1x 5M)
To TOR: 2022 1st, Quinton Byfield, Akil Thomas, Olli Maataa, Matt Roy, whatever buriable spare parts they want to dump

Let's goooooooooo

Yes I know my proposed return is low. Throw in Turcotte or Vilardi. Or the recently signed Iafallo.
Iafallo would be nice.

Nope.  The NHL is the only league that has a completely different set of rules in the regular season and post-season.  I like that the game is more physical but the hooking and holding that defensive oriented teams get away with is painful.  It doesn't add to the "toughness" element of the game and creates a boring visual product.

I agree 100%. It's sad that a inferior team can beat a better team by hooking and holding skilled players up and down the ice. The Leafs should have a major gripe about this. Watching that Winnipeg vs Montreal series was mindnumbing.
Agree. I couldn't watch it, flat out horrible. Said it many times, the NHL is the only league that punishes skill. Trapazoid, non calls of penalties in the playoffs. I saw  Bruin crosscheck a guy at least 3  times last night and he was down for 2 of them. That's ridiculous.

I actually have more of a problem with the flat out holds on the dumps and chases. That's 100% interference. It gets called all year. Then in the playoffs it's back to the early 90's we go. I'm not a fan of the dump and chase, but with certain players, it's what I want to see. Get it deep. Bang some bodies. Wear down a defense. Allow the secondary D to retreat, get the puck easily and breakout while the primary D is holding the dumping player up removes the effectiveness from a dump and chase game.
I def hate the interference as well. There is no chance of wearing down the D because they don;t have to rush back lol.

Quite frankly, Campbell is the only reason game 5 wasn't completely out of hand before the end of the 1st period.
That was actually game 6. Game 5 he wasn't good on goals 2 and 3.

He will be in every line-up I post for next season until I'm told otherwise.
I don't see him getting a lot of money so if he got along with Keefe and Dubas in the Soo, there would be a fit.

Thoughts on this series

Good:
- Campbell was largely good and truly did enough over the course of the series to give the Leafs enough of a chance to win, which is quite different from previous years

I agree with most of what you had to say except this part. I feel that while Campbell made some good saves, he didn't stop the shots that he had to. That is not "giving a team an opportunity to win." I can think of at least 3 very critical goals that an NHL playoff winning goalie cannot let go into the back of his net. I realize that I've brought this up a couple times, but I don't think it's getting enough attention in the media. I get that Jack is a super nice guy and a real good teammate, but that means nothing when you lose game 7 after being up 3-1. Was he the sole reason they lost? Far from it. Matthews, Marner, Tavares injury, Muzzin injury, Foligno injury, the Leafs inability to change their game style are all contributing factors, but Campbell could have righted that with a couple "ordinary saves" when the team needed them the most.
There's big issues with the five hole goal from the top of the circle from Gallagher in Game 7. The 5 on 3 goal short side when all the Leafs needed was a stop. The deflected goal in OT after the Leafs outshot the habs 13-1. Those are the killers. Those are the goals/saves that mean the difference between a first round loss and a first round victory. If the Leafs go into next season with Campbell as their starter with no plan B, we will be having the same conversation next spring.
When your goalie posts a .920+ and has a better save percentage than the other guy then you're really overthinking the goaltending and under thinking the shooters.

If I'm coming off that I'm putting all the blame at Campbell's feet, I apologize. Definitely not what I'm trying to get across. I just don't think Campbell should escape all blame. Like I've said before, being a goalie myself, I am a defender of the position in general. I just don't think Campbell is an NHL starter. I don't get the feeling that he's going to stop the shots when he has to.

I fully agree that Marner and Matthews have to be better. I fully agree that Thornton should have been in the pressbox. Keefe needs to be better. That's two playoff series in a row where he didn't adjust when what the Leafs were doing, clearly was not working.

(Side Note, Andersen put up a .936 last year against Columbus and a .922 vs Boston the year before yet he's categorized as being the exact same thing as I am pegging Campbell as. A goalie that can't make the big save at the right time. Yes I know it's a bigger sample size for Andersen)
I never took it that you were blaming Campbell for the Leafs exit. I don't think he was either but it seems he's been given a free pass on the stoppable goals. Freddie didn't get a pass despite putting up excellent numbers and letting in fewer cheapies.
I'm a goalie too so I tend to always defend them. I like Jack and I think he played very good but he has to share in the blame here. He didn't get it done and I agree with OldTime, the Leafs need to get a 1A goalie for next season or they could be in big trouble.
Anyway, the whole team needs to be better and so does the coaching staff.

I can't believe it.  Now we have to hear from those insufferable habs fans.

Ugh.
Nah, just turn it off lol. I don't see them getting past Vegas or Colorado but I guess MacKinnon, Stone whoever could get hurt/suspended lol. Jets were horrible, especially without Scheifele.
