I like him to. He shows promise.

Nice little story about Gabriel here. Seems like a solid dude.

Very easy guy to root for. His playing history definitely suggests he shouldn't be anywhere near the main team unfortunately but 1 game with him and Simmonds being the bash bros in front of a sold out Toronto crowd would be fun to watch.
Heard an interview with him today. Sounds like a quality human being.

Hey what about Chara for the Bogo role? How were his numbers in Washington?
I think they were pretty bad and he played sheltered minutes. There are better options but we'd get our own crosschecker!

Let's take a look at our primary competition going into this season and what their offseasons have looked like so far

Tampa: Lost their entire '3rd' line, and Tyler Johnson; Stamkos might be a shell of himself. But they got Bogosian, they play like an extremely well-oiled machine and still have Kuch, Point, Vasilevskiy, Hedman. Tough out always, but took a sizable step back.

Boston: Added Foligno, retained Hall, nice pickup in Reilly. Lost both their goalies though (Rask is injured).

Montreal: still sucks

Florida: up and coming; Ekblad being healthy will make them extra tough to play. Their goaltending is a big question mark riding on Spencer Knight's emergence or Bob's bounceback if possible.

Ottawa: who cares, we'll lose to them either way

Buffalo: lol

You forgot a couple:

Montreal: still sucks but still managed to beat the Leafs and make it to the finals. Losing Danault might be a biggie for them, though.

Toronto: Lost heart and soul 20+ goal scorer Zach Hyman, replaced with...Michael Bunting? Goaltending probably a wash.
Leafs scored 4 goals a game without Hyman...their PK also improved almost 10%...they will be fine. This is still a very good team.

If he is so good why did the Yotes let him go?  Not an expensive player.

He was a UFA.

And turned down better offers to be here

If I had a dime for every time I heard that...
His girlfriend works for MLSE..

Man they hype up depth guys.  Last year I remember it was Vesey...and his Harvard chemistry with Kerfoot
Of course they do...it's Leafland. Bunting will be good whether playing on the Marlies or the Leafs. Kid apparently is a pain to play against and that's a good thing. We'll see.

The only thing that can dispel that is to win a freaking round in the playoffs.

But what does that actually prove?

It will prove that watching them can actually be enjoyable.
It was enjoyable tho. I enjoyed the season on a whole...didn't like the ending but it was a great year.

As I was reviewing depth and contract term etc. this morning at Cap Friendly, I was reminded that we have Phil Kessel on the books for 1 more year at $1.2 million - which means that Phil costs more than each of these listed roster players - Wayne Simmonds, Michael Amadio, Jason Spezza, Rasmus Sandin, and Alex Biega.

One more year......

The return ended up being pretty solid really but yeah that retention aspect of it sure sucked. Especially since it's dead space you can't move to another team or anything.

IIRC, there was a player on the penguins who refused to waive his NTC for that trade and Pittsburgh was the only team on Kessel's list that was willing to trade for him, so retaining was the only way to make it happen.

I think it would have been far worse had they not been able to trade Kessel that summer.
They probably don't finish last and get Matthews.

No team is a lock...injuries can happen to key players to ruin it for a team pretty quick.
Agree with the D. Time to play them.

That's a pretty steep price. Like if the Leafs dealt Liljegren and a 1st. And if the Avs end up wanting to re-sign him I doubt he'd come in much cheaper than Grubauer did. Think them and Boston both got caught without goalies and had to scramble/overpay to get theirs.
Yup.. Dubas did well to get Mrazek early.

I think Dubas may aim higher then Ritchie but I wouldn't mind him. Depends on the cost.

I think Dubas did very well to get Mrazek when he could. The goalie market has gone crazy. I would have liked Ullmark but not at 5 mill. Grubauer also but at 6 mill? Kuemper's price has gone sky high now.

lol
Yeah, that's too much for him. Even Biron really doesn't like him that much and he's watched him for 5 years. Doesn't trust him to hold a lead late in the game.

Bunting apparently left money on the table to come to the Leafs.
