Leafs Rumours & Speculation / Re: Armchair GM 2021-2022: Catharsis

"the Leafs have had interest in both Holl and Travis Dermott, but Holl is older and earns more – in a role that’s not commensurate with his pay."

I feel like this is a weird way to frame the problem with Holl right now. It's definitely fair to say his performance hasn't quite met expectations so far this season but his "role" on the team still right now is that of a top-4, 20 minute defenceman who gets tough usage/deployment and plays on the top PK pairing.

If his "role" isn't commensurate with his pay then what does that mean for Dermott who makes $0.5mil less but plays sheltered bottom pairing minutes and isn't allowed on any specialty teams unless absolutely necessary?

I wonder how many times Matthews and Tavares were both voted in for a MotM game. I would guess: a surprisingly small amount.

It's crazy to me that Colorado felt comfortable going into the season with him as back-up knowing what Kuemper's injury history was like.

Actually my bad on this, they do have a legit decent back-up in Pavel Francouz but he's been injured since pre-season. It's almost as if #3 goalies aren't supposed to be that good.

Damn, just realized Girard's goal with 0.3 seconds left in the 1st period ended Kampf's shutout streak. He had gone 17 straight games without the opposition scoring a 5-on-5 goal with him on the ice prior to that.

He was on for just a 7 second shift too lol.

Matthews had just 2 goals at 5-on-5 in 17 games this season and was on a 10-game 5-on-5 goalless streak before scoring 5 in his last 4 games:

Harsh. But fair.

It's crazy to me that Colorado felt comfortable going into the season with him as back-up knowing what Kuemper's injury history was like.

Man it's a shame this game doesn't count because Colorado has their back-up in net. Ah well.

Phew, at least Jack still starts.

Wonder if this changes what the teams plan is for when everyone comes off LTIR, which could be soon-ish (knock on wood). Engvall was a potential cap causality but no matter how you cut it losing your 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th forward on the depth chart isn't something any team would be too psyched about (granted the Leafs were able to replace one of those guys with Clifford).

Also could Vegas' impending cap crunch please happen soon so we can get a shot at getting back one or both of Brooks/Amadio?

He's heading back to the KHL. Leafs down another depth guy after already losing Brooks and Amadio to waivers.

"Arguably" the most important thing to him? What sort of lack of commitment is that? Does he have some sort of family or personal life he values? NOT 100% MROGAN!

Also basically admitting that he didn't care when others said his teammates sucked and were failures for the first 7 years he was here.

Quick updates on the injured guys:

Sounds like all 3 could be back in action at some point next week.
