QuoteSenators GM Bryan Murray asked after the combine if they could interview Vasilevskiy in Ottawa, where the goalie prospect was training. They were going to fly in Russian defenseman Sergei Gonchar to help in the talks. But the day before the scheduled interview, Vasilevskiy went to a water park for a few hours.

"It was a very, very hot day," Tyjnych said. "He was burned. He was so red. So I called Ottawa and said, 'I'm so sorry, he's feeling bad, maybe some fever. Can we postpone for two or three days? They said 'OK,' but seemed disappointed.

"They never called me back."

Ottawa picked 15th that draft, and it was a beauty.

what ever happened to madferret and SuckerPunch?

Once the Sens turned into garbage they couldn't easily troll Leafs fans anymore so they stopped posting.

It's the perfect spot for a rink with the Redblacks and 67's playing right next door.

Lebreton Flats is hardly next door to Lansdowne Park/Frank Clair Stadium/TD Place...

My bad on that one. Not sure why I had that impression.

Regardless. Closer to downtown than Kanata.

Alfredsson going into the Hall of Fame.

Luongo, Sedin, Sedin and Riika Sallinen and Herb Carnegie (builder)

I wish there was only room for one of the Sedin's and they had to pick between the two.

The Hall just keeps lowering their standards. Sad. ;D

I looked up this NHL.com article after Luongo retired asking whether or not he should be in the Hall and 6 of the 7 columnists/writers asked said he shouldn't be a first ballot guy.

Which is funny because, I mean, he was... and because I think he's arguably the most deserving one in the bunch this year. Wild he never managed to win a Vezina in his career.

Unfortunately, his best years were in the "Brodeur wins the Vezina, because Brodeur" years.

I don't think Alfredsson is the worst choice or whatever but I do think he represents two things that are, generally speaking, not good. One is a sort of general lowering of the standards and the other is rewarding a guy not so much for his play but for the optics of a guy spending the entirety of his career for a Canadian team and being the face of their franchise. I've made the comparison before but Alfredsson going in over Patrik Elias, to me, is a perfect example of how the HHOF's standards are a moving target that say more about the people doing the inducting than the inductee.
I wish to hell I'd never said "Winning isn't everything it's the only thing". What I believe is, if you go out on a football field, or any endeavour in life, and you leave every fibre of what you have on the field, then you've won.

That sums things up nicely. To me, Alfredsson was the epitome of a guy whose career fell just short of the HHoF. Very good overall numbers, but missing out on some of the standard measuring sticks, some seasons where he got consideration among the best at his position but rarely in serious contention for being the best, not much in terms of end of season awards, etc. Strong international results help boost him up, but I never thought of them as strong enough to push him over the top, but rather, right up to the edge. Guys like him and Elias were essentially the measuring stick for me - they're among the best of the not quite Hall-worthy. Except, I guess, now one of them is.

Ottawa appears to be very smitten with Anderson and Dvorak and might be throwing that 1st rd pick onto the table
