Quote from: Zee on June 19, 2024, 04:16:46 PMIt's almost like GMs think the final ended last night and started making trades

It's almost like the draft is next weekend...

Having 5 weeks between each Game to drag the Finals through the end of June was certainly a bizarre choice
Dont even care who wins, not that I did after the Leafs went out, just end it. Way too long.

Quote from: CarltonTheBear on June 18, 2024, 09:12:07 AMI actually think Gustavsson will be a sneaky good add for a team somewhere this season but I'm not sure it'll be the Leafs. Gus has openly said it himself that a big thing he needs to work on is his "mental mindset" to be a more consistent goalie. He seems to have a hard time digging himself out of the lows of a season. For obvious reasons don't know if Toronto is the best place to work on that sort of stuff.
Alas.

Quote from: CarltonTheBear on June 18, 2024, 09:12:07 AMOne "cheap fast forward" I've had on my list is Brandon Duhaime. Former long-time linemate of Dewar with Minnesota (they were often referred to as Dewy 1 and Dewy 2 there), and the duo actually formed a line with Reaves for most of 22/23 after Reaves was traded there. He's basically a bigger/more physical version of Dewar while trading away a little offensive talent. But still very fast and has PK experience. I think he probably comes in a little more than I'd like to spend on a 4th liner especially with Reaves' contract on the books but still someone I could see Treliving going after, especially if Kampf is moved.

I missed out on this because I was filtering for righties! I'm down for a doo doo line.

I'm down with replacing Jarnkrok and Kampf if there are takers (okay with keeping them too), but I am hoping Minten is a decent enough Jarnkrok replacement.

If we don't get a C, I'd like to see Nylander at centre for a longer spell under new coaching.
Jarnkrok can go.  He's easily replaced by sometime making half of what he makes. I think Minten could be that guy. Same with Kampf.

Let's see if the new guy can get the PP to perform in the playoffs

It would help if key players weren't injured or sick. Everyone forget about that?
I think Keefe's loyalty hurt here more then Bouchers plan. The PP was humming along very well when Rielly was out and JT was on PP2. When Rielly came back he was put back on PP1 right away and JT soon after and the PP tanked from then on.

The East is the beast. Oil finding out what the Leafs have to battle through. Where are their stars?

Quote from: L K on June 10, 2024, 09:36:28 AMThere is no incentive from Marner to play nice and take a trade unless he doesn't want to risk social media criticism.
He doesn't seem to care much about them now.

Quote from: lamajama on June 08, 2024, 08:54:54 PMWould they not want the team in Canada - exchange rate, canadian dollar expenses, easy access?
Leafs got deep pockets and a place like Cincinnati is closer then Newfoundland.

Quote from: Bender on June 03, 2024, 11:51:54 AMI'm of two minds... it's easy to see how each team could take this. McDavid and Draisaitl just go off, Hyman keeps scoring and Skinner keeps rolling. On the other hand, I think Florida knows how to grind teams to a pulp, and Barkov may be able to hold McDavid in some level of check. Goaltending really can go either way this series.
Florida beat Vasi, Swayman and Shesterkin. Skinner isn't in that world. Barkov creates a different challenge for the Oilers.

I'd put Cowan in a 4th line checking role before sending him back to junior.

Quote from: herman on June 03, 2024, 11:05:41 AMMcDavid is going to get punched in the jaw 'accidentally' during a hit and Draisaitl will get hacked in the Achilles 'accidentally' during a powerplay, and that will be the series.
Was actually surprised that Dallas didn't play rough. Florida will have no issues getting rough.

Quote from: herman on June 03, 2024, 10:56:38 AMIf the Leafs front office people are so worried about their cast-offs winning the Cup, that's a loser's mentality. Fretting over the fantasy of someone else winning means you don't think you are winning anything.
That's just EF's guess. I highly doubt management feels this way. They want to make a great trade...that's it.

I think Florida takes it in 6. Their depth should carry them.

Quote from: L K on June 03, 2024, 07:50:59 AMLosing the game with 20 seconds left like that sucks but what a hell of a season.  I do wonder how his size is going to impact him for the next couple of years but he moves well and is quick at burst skating to change directions and angles that might do well enough to produce next year.
Not worried about his size at all. It's the fight in the dog that matters. Kucherov is smaller then Cowan.

Quote from: Guilt Trip on May 30, 2024, 06:17:08 PMJarnkrok needs to go. 2.1M is too much for a guy that does nothing in the playoffs.

I'm genuinely asking this but what 2.1 million player is a 'playoff performer'?

Exactly. The problem isn't that Jarnkrok doesn't produce in the playoffs. The problem is that the Leafs' depth up front has been so poor that they've needed him to do so. Moving his salary doesn't do much to help the team fix that, but it will hurt them defensively and takeaway another penalty killer - an area they need more help in, not less.

Not to mention he just came back from injuries.

I think he's the perfect player that amount. I'd definitely be keeping him.

He has been like a 'Swiss Army knife'. He's produced on the PP or PK. He's done respectably in the top 6. He's got a decent conscience and ability defensively. He wins nearly 50% of his draws. He scores 10-20 goals/yr and is near .5ppg. Most players like that are making more $

And does nothing in the playoffs. Kampf scores at a greater rate. I don't care about regular season. 2.1M is too much for a checker when cap space is at a premium.
