Messages - Significantly Insignificant

Wow they are bad in overtime.
This one could have gone either way.
They didn't give Matthews an assist on the Marner goal because it went off the broken stick.
Quote from: L K on November 30, 2022, 10:14:32 PMNicky Bobby seems like he's doing the right things but putting the puck in the wrong spot.  To me that is a lack of ice time problem more than a bad play problem.

Leafs need to get more aggressive though.  Dan Jose is sitting back and playing not to lose

Dan should pick his game up then.  He's a Jose after all.

Sorry, just catching up, read this and I love how it just works.
At the Sens - Rangers game tonight so I will miss this one.  So cheer hard people.
Karlsson has played 25 games, not 11.  He has 11 goals though which is the same as Auston Matthews.

Network hockey coverage isn't going to draw the line here between the player and the world junior team embroiled in the legal scandal that toppled the Hockey Canada board and its decades of cover ups, is it? Or maybe they are, but how little they're covering this compared to Nylander.

I think this is an interesting development.  Both he nor Batherson have released comments on it, and Batherson is currently playing for the team.  I'm not sure where this ends up, but the lack of news on the Formenton front feels like he is going to be the one that eventually takes the fall for this.  Which may be fair if he was the ring leader.

Quote from: Significantly Insignificant on November 28, 2022, 11:11:24 PMI think they need to look at how they allowed the number of shots that they did, but other than that it was a solid game from the Leafs.

There's some stuff to clean up for sure, but the public stats are a bit simplistic. The Leafs for the past little while have not cared all that much about raw Corsi (shot attempts), but more about certain dangerous chances against: odd man rushes, pre-shot movement through the slot or into the slot, shots the goalie can't see, etc. I'm pretty sure they are blending their Sportlogiq data and their Clear Sight Analytics data into their own proprietary game KPIs/xG model. Like a fancier version of Carlyle-puck if I'm being glib and cynical about it, but with puck possession and five-man attacks instead of cheating off dump out rushes.

Edit: and after I write all that, here it is from Keefe himself

QuoteI thought we defended way too much because of our inability to break out, but especially in periods two and three, we really didn't give up the big chance. There were a lot of shots from the perimeter and a lot of long shots.

They got a tip on one that went in in the third there, but by and large, I thought the guys did a good job of allowing Matt to see the puck. With the way [Murray] is playing, if he is seeing it, he is stopping it. That was really good.

Yeah, I think it's my oversimplified view of things, and the leftover residue of the Carlyle years where it was like "Yeah we give up a lot of shots, but we are okay with it" approach that leads me to get worried when I see shot totals rise.  There is a lot more that goes into though, and they have been pretty good about keeping shot totals down.  The Pittsburgh game was great for that.  Totally dominated the shots.

If Erne was bothering me I would just look at him and say "Okay Bert!!!"

I think the Wings are trying to prove they belong.  I also think it is hard to play an entire game at that pace.
Okay Toronto.  Go Crotia on them.

Kudos to Alphonso Davies.

Quote from: Arn on November 24, 2022, 02:14:13 PMThought Canada were massively unlucky to lose t Belgium last night. They were the better team but perhaps just a bit naive in comparison to Belgium.
Agreed, we totally dominated Belgium, they just gotta connect a little bit better in the O Zone. Looking forward to a win against Croatia on Sunday

And pick the right person to take the penalty kick.
