Am I the only one not sold on Samsonov as the solution for the team's goaltending?  I know we just saw a stiff in Adin Hill win the Cup, and the Leafs have very little wiggle room cap wise, but I'd rather Treliving do something creative to improve the position than just run it back with Samsonov.

I'm all for "overpaying" the Matthews, Marner and Nylander.  So long as there is term (at least 6 years) to their contracts.

Some nice little tidy work done by Treliving.  And I think the team is better today than they were at the season's end.  I'm pleased with how the last couple days have gone.

Size, snarl, and offensive ability.  Give him a show-me deal with it.

Love these last two signings.  One-year deals for good talents and not a bunch of fluff.

I'm actually okay with how things have panned out so far.  The Reeves signing I don't care for, but Klingberg is fine on a one-year deal.

Outside of Bunting, there's no one who I'm sad to see go.  O'Reilly would have been fine to re-sign, but not at that term.  Schenn, Holl, Kerfoot, Acciari...meh.  Mostly glad they're not coming back.

Would it have been nice to have signed Duchene to that value deal?  Absolutely.  But we don't know if the Leafs were even a plan for him.

I'll reserve judgement of how things are rounded out before crucifying Treliving.  I want more, but it's also good to see him not going nuts for fluff like some other deals.  Still waiting for him to do something bold.

Would rather this deal for Klingberg at the higher cost than the 3 years given to both Schenn and Holl.

He's Barrie 2.0.  And it remains to be seen if that'll be a good or bad thing.

Quote from: L K on July 01, 2023, 11:17:19 AM4.5 for ROR seems reasonable.   If that wasn't something we could offer our depth is going to be garbage this year

ROR looked like he was getting cooked.  I see him falling off quickly with all the mileage on his body like Muzzin did.

The money is fine.  4 years would have been 2 years too long though.

Decent deal.  But I'd rather not see the team tie up a bit of extra money on longer term for pretty much bottom six run-of-the-mill players.

Would be nice if we had some youngsters in the pipeline who could fill these types of roles while on their ELCs than recycling a bunch of stiffs and hoping to squeeze the most out of them.

Quote from: bustaheims on June 27, 2023, 02:36:00 PMMaybe, but Newhook is probably about as good as anyone they'd likely get with those picks, and he's a proven NHLer. Not a great deal, but not an awful one.

Yeah, I think this type of move for Montreal is worth the gamble.  22-year old with potential.  If you view him worth like a 20th to 25th overall type pick, trading the 37th along with the 31st to move up seems like a fair price.

That is a very good return for Winnipeg.  Nice shot to the system in rebuilding/revamping the team with the amount of players looking to get out.

Quote from: Bender on June 23, 2023, 12:06:12 PMWhy does he look permanently confused in photos?

And kudos to him, in that when he was drafted at 18 he looked like he was in his 40s.  And now that he's in his 40s, he still looks it.

Man, I totally forgot Peca had a cup of coffee with the Leafs.

A return of Connor Brown at a lower price to be our next Hyman/Bunting would entice me.

Quote from: herman on June 13, 2023, 12:55:57 PMThe Leafs are playing in Sweden this coming Nov for the Global Series, so that would be a nice treat.

I actually wondered awhile ago if that might help attract some Swedish free agents this offseason. I imagine it'd be a possible once in a lifetime opportunity for them. Swedish UFAs include: Klingberg, Nyquist, Johnsson, Sunqvist, Engvall, Fast, Janmark, Hagg, Gustafsson.

At the right price any of them would be decent options. I really like Klingberg on a cheap-ish deal if the Leafs defence isn't crowded (or maybe even if it is). Nyquist, Sundqvist, Fast, or Janmark would all be fine forward depth too. Ship has probably sailed on Engvall/Johnsson.

I like the Klingberg option.  Would definitely be worth the gamble on a cheap deal.  Even with him giving me complete Barrie vibes.
