Quote from: Andy on June 21, 2024, 08:07:28 PMEdmonton has had five coaches since the time Babcock started here in 2015. For awhile they looked liked a mess, and some of their signings (Koskinen! Campbell!) looked downright egregious. Goes to show how quickly it can all turn and, potentially, what a new coach can do, I guess. Granted it took five, but Im not sure why we were so hesitant to move away from Keefe.

Yeah all the Leafs need is the greatest player in 30 years and we're solid

Quote from: Zee on June 19, 2024, 04:16:46 PMIt's almost like GMs think the final ended last night and started making trades

It's almost like the draft is next weekend...

I get that, but I've heard reporters say the NHL tries to discourage teams from making deals during the finals so as not to "distract from the finals".  But I agree with other comments on here, stupid of the NHL to drag this series out.  Right from the first game that they delayed for almost a week was an idiotic decision.

That's the problem. If this goes to a Game 7 the Finals end on June 24. The NHL playoffs started on April 20.  The draft starts on June 28 and ends on June 29th.  Free agency starts July 1st.

Having a week between the end of the playoffs and the start of the free agency period is stupid.  Making teams wait to make moves under a tight schedule like that is terrible scheduling.

Season should also start about 3 weeks earlier. Shouldn't be playing hockey into almost July.

Seems like such easy things to do but the NHL refuses. Instead of starting hockey in mid-October why not push up the season start to late September? That 2 weeks alone would mean the finals would have been at this point on June 7th.

Quote from: cabber24 on June 21, 2024, 12:05:03 PMFilip Gustavsson would be awesome. I thought he was going to go off last year and ended up having a horrible start and splitting time with Fleury. He would be a cheaper trade target than Saros or Ullmark.

I know it makes no sense but I'm wary of this cause our last Gustavsson goalie didn't work out so well.

He was angling for the head coaching gig and when he didn't get it, it made extra sense on both sides to move on

Yes Guy/No Guy situation

Hopefully this ends tonight, the Euro is on, time for soccer

So we don't have to see Corey Perry win but we have to see Sam Bennett win. Lose lose situation

What's Ottawa going to do now that they don't have a system to track their cap?

Quote from: cw on June 11, 2024, 07:20:19 AMBlow to the Public: Washington Capitals To Purchase CapFriendly Website, Site Reportedly to Go Dark Following Draft
QuoteAccording to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Capitals reached an agreement to purchase the site along with its infrastructure, tools and API and that other teams that had had contracts with CapFriendly to have access these tools were informed that those contracts were being terminated.

CapFriendly is extremely popular, with over 200,000 followers on Twitter/X alone, so not only is this a blow to rival teams. but also a massive blow to the public sphere.

It's also a blow to most everyone who works in and around hockey as CapFriendly was perhaps one of the most frequently visited sites and I can attest to this on a personal level.

I'm sure something else will pop up.
It will take it a while  to become as good.

Puckpedia has cap info, not as polished as capfriendly

Quote from: Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate on June 08, 2024, 10:24:57 PMLosing Marner will not make us a better team.  I hope he can get past all this BS and re-sign.

I don't necessarily agree with this. If they can spend 11 million on 2 other players that make an impact the team could be better. Say a goalie and D? You can't just automatically assume the team is worse without Marner
