Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Scoring Woes
November 11, 2022, 07:52:37 PM
You know I've been thinking we've complained about some of Dubas' moves ie goaltending and not improving the D. How many of you feel that we need to maybe pick up some scoring. I know Matthews isn't producing as of yet but I get this feeling that the scoring team wide might be a concern this year. Anyone else feel the same? Is it just getting accustomed to line mates, new guys in the lineup or is there maybe an area of concern.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Matthews/ Konecny
November 03, 2022, 06:55:47 PM
Just wondering about everyones take on Tim's comments on the Tim & Friends episode today. In regards to Matthews incident with Konecny yesterday and how he defended himself. I'm split on the incident. Everyone knows my feeling on how soft this team is. I don't expect Matthews to drop his gloves but slashing at a guy and standing around with that smirk on his face I don't care for. Skate away for heavens sake. Same smirk when he got rag dolled around by Chariot in a game against the Habs. Getting challenged as Tim said by a feisty 170 lb guy and with that response. I know no-one wants to see a star possibly get injured but there comes a time when you have to defend yourself.

Leafs Rumours & Speculation / KAREL VEJMELKA
March 12, 2022, 09:12:59 PM
You know the Leafs don't seem to have much in the way of goaltenders in the minors. I'm not sold on Woll as of yet. Erik Kallgren I haven't seen enough of. I wonder if the Coyotes and leafs can make a deal regarding Karel Vejmelka. I like the way he plays. His numbers aren't great but look at the team in front of him. Only 25 I think he's better than Mrazek, great size and can probably be had for very little. I think he's better than anything else we have in the pipeline. Consensus?

Not sure if someone's posted anything lately but is there any talk of the Leafs signing any NCAA free agents?

General NHL News & Views / Jake Virtanen
July 25, 2021, 07:44:20 PM
With the Canucks buying out Virtanen what's everyone's thoughts on possibly signing him. Know he's going through some allegations etc and I've not a huge fan of his but should the Leafs look at him. Probably come cheap and definitely fill a spot on the bottom 6. Think he can turn it around? Opinions?

Leafs Rumours & Speculation / Tony DeAngelo
April 16, 2021, 10:23:02 AM
Just curious as to everyones thoughts on the Leafs looking into Tony DeAngelo from the Rangers. I read there was some interest from more than 1 team in him at the deadline. I know the guy has issues not sure if the Leafs want to take that on. Having said that if a team can turn this kids mindset they would have a pretty solid, fairly young RH defenseman. Definitely be an upgrade in our top 6 and more importantly someone who can quarterback a PP, good skater and has a shot from the point. Kid had 53 points in 68 games 2 years ago. I know he's had issues but if a team can straighten him out would be a great pickup and might not cost a whole hell of a lot due to his issues. I wonder if Dubas and the Leafs were one of the teams.

General NHL News & Views / Mackinnon On Next Contract
December 06, 2019, 11:54:24 AM
See what happens when he signs but that's the kind of player or leader you want on my team.
Didn't hear any of that coming from our overpaid bunch.

Just on another site and all kinds of bashing regarding some of the Leafs especially Nylander after last night. My question to all of you is how long do we wait before something changes?
Some on here think everything will be fine. Need more time with the new guys, injuries etc.
I don't think so. Same crap is going on now that was happening in year one of Babcock's tenure.
I have been very critical of his coaching but I think Dubas has failed in some of his duties and has handcuffed himself with the ridiculous contracts he handed out and not addressing areas of concern.

I was very critical of the Nylander signing as he held out and for me when I guy holds out then ship him out. Got exactly what he wanted after sitting 2 months.
The other 2 signings with Mitch and Auston again overpayment and not even full terms.
Both contracts look horrible at the moment the way they are playing.
Yes I'm sure some of you will bash me with Mitch is in top 10 in scoring, Auston has 11 goals blah blah blah.
Truth of the matter is they haven't played to their capabilities and far too many nights off.
I'm actually starting to question Auston's commitment and drive. Kid has all the tools and talent but doesn't bring it each and every shift or night for that matter.

Have these guys given up on Babcock?
I personally think so.
So again the question is how long do we keep plugging away with Babcock behind the bench?
Or get rid of some of these guys and change the makeup of this team.

Some of you will disagree with me but new faces or not, injuries included I don't see a whole hell of a lot changing and longer Dubas waits the worse it's going to be.
Team was ranked second behind TB to win it all.
Yes TB is struggling but I think they will turn it around.
I don't think the Leafs will not to the point of being a top team.
They struggled in the second half last year to the point of almost being a wild card team.
Not much difference from missing the playoffs.
We shouldn't even be discussing this as I have said before we have so much more talent than 90% of the league but we struggle.

Shanny and Dubas need to do something and soon but if we are in this same situation come Christmas going to be a struggle I think to get into the playoffs and that would be an epic fail as I have said before.

Get rid of Babcock and see what happens and if the effort isn't there then get rid of some of these floaters and get some guys with some grit and play hard on a nightly basis.

Leafs Rumours & Speculation / Jimmy Vesey
March 12, 2016, 06:29:56 PM
Been following the Jimmy Vesey situation over the last few months. Vesey, 22, was drafted by Nashville in the same draft year as Morgan Rielly, and is a highly touted prospect but unsigned. David Poile Predators GM says he can play in the NHL now and has a spot open for him. Preds don't want to lose him. Leafs drafted his brother and his Dad was hired by the Leafs as a part time scout. Hmmmm. Leafs would love to get their hands on the 3rd member of the family. 6'3" and 210 pounds with great speed who plays at Harvard. 74 goals in about 118 games of college hockey as of the middle of Feb. The Crimson are playing RPI this weekend in ECAC playoffs. If they lose the series, it's possible they might not make it to the NCAA tournament and their season could end, meaning Vesey would be available to be signed this month. What does everyone think our chances might be?

Just read this and I kinda figured this earlier in the year. Due to slow start and Torts coming in as coach and then I heard some grumblings of them not getting along. If Johansen is getting shopped what does everyone think? What would it take? Should the Leafs try and land him? From looking at the Leafs the way they have played and I said this the other day they were unfortunate early in the season. They for the most part outplayed a lot of teams but nothing to show for it and I think that was due to goaltending early was weak. They have played both the Rangers and Habs twice. Two favourites to go all the way and I don't think they were outplayed in any of the 4 games. Scoring was going to be a weakness and it has. Getting a guy like Johansen a top flight good young centerman with good size I think the Leafs should be looking hard at a trade. I think he's the centerman we've been looking for for a long time. Just want everyones opinion. I've been thoroughly impressed with what Babcock has gotten out of this bunch and they way they are battling every night. Johansen would help immensely. Question is what will it take?
