Quote from: RedLeaf on July 02, 2023, 05:52:27 PMYeah. It's all about were your allegiance lies. Give me the nastiest, down dirty players...if a Stanley cup is attached I'm IN!

Not me. I can deal with an on-ice shitbag to some extent, but Bertuzzi' anti-vax selfishness makes him impossible to get behind, no matter what team he plays for.

I'm out.

He's also a world renowned epidemiologist.

Quote from: LittleHockeyFan on July 01, 2023, 11:27:24 AMthis new GM.... I hate him already. He lets Schenn and O'Reilly go, but signs Ryan f*@#&ing Reaves. Like we need another cementhead who will spend most of his time either on the bench or in the penaltybox.
what a useless move this was.....
Schenn is getting too much and ROR for 4 years isn't ideal but could have lived with it. I don't know why they signed Reaves but it doesn't really bother me because Reaves is a 4th liner so more ice for the top 6. Contrary to popular belief, he doesn't take a lot of penalties. He was 9th on Minny for penalties per time played. He also only had 31 minutes in 61 games played, 3 minors, 5 majors. He also drew more penalties then he took.

He's borderline unplayable now, and will be completely unplayable in years 2 and 3. It's just a absurdly pointless signing.
So who cares about those years then? They can ship him off to the Marlies. Cap hit is almost completely buriable.
Ya agreed they neeed the protection now, not later. NEEED.  In two years they by him out or Ltri him.

In what world do people exist that they think that having a facepuncher in the lineup "protects" players? This has been disproven constantly and yet it still gets brought up as some kind of irrefutable logic.

I had more time for a potential Nylander trade based upon being stuck on an extension overpay, but watching Treiliving today assign space to a)garbage and b)declining, heavily flawed high risk - I'd sooner he just gave Nylander the 10M, hide under some coats, and see if the top 6 can get them through the season- because I have serious doubts moving the best player in a trade for multiple assets of his apparent choosing is going to offset.

when he has d zone coverage issues I hereby patent the right to call him static klingberg

Quote from: Deebo on July 01, 2023, 01:11:42 PMDreger said the Leafs are "kicking tires" on Max Domi.

Interesting-ish. He played really well for Chicago and then Dallas in the playoffs.

Although I hate the deal and what it represents, I'm willing to under the assumption that they didn't go completely insane and structure it such that it can't be buried. Surely Pridham still has some input.

Or, you know, a GM can actually acquire players that are valuable additions over the length of their contracts, especially in the short term and not have to plan to bury anything.

Quote from: herman on July 01, 2023, 11:14:45 AMWell the cap hit will be negligible next year, just like his TOI this year. Except for probably like 3 big hits and a couple of tussles in Nov and Feb.

Dinosaur GM move. I'm missing dubas already.

Dubas always had these guys on his teams too (younger and could play initially) in Clune, Clifford, Simmonds

They've still got Clifford if they wanted a face puncher, and I'd wager he's just as good at hockey. If they're at an impasse with Nylander because they're 1.3 million apart (which it sounds like they are), but sign Reaves, this is going to look even worse.

Quote from: Significantly Insignificant on July 01, 2023, 11:21:52 AMI'm starting to think the Leafs made a mistake on their GM hire.

I think it's probably hard to go hard after UFAs until they can get they get Nylander's extension worked out (or more likely, not worked out). I'd wager he'll be traded in the next day or two.

Good for Luke but glad Leafs didn't bite

Yeah, that's too steep. Baffling overpay for Nashville. You bought out duchene to make these kind of deals?
