I would trade Murray to Detroit for Zadina and let them buy him out, as they likely don't need him. Gets Yzerman out of Zadina, nicely, gets us out of the Murray contract, without the hit. If we have to sweeten for the buyout, it's likely worth it, to make everything work out. Just a thought, as they have two players eligible for arbitration, I believe.

Quote from: Nik on July 02, 2023, 08:48:53 PMI feel like C depth is still the obvious need but I guess you can go #3 C shopping at the deadline. Otherwise, I think they've beefed up at LW pretty admirably.

Domi could technically line up at 3C, maybe with Knies as a winger. He played centre most of last season. Depends on if they'll finally try to having a  sheltered scoring line there or just keep running a "do-nothing" bottom-6.

I think he actually played his best hockey at center for that Chicago team last year, putting up some decent points. His playoff with Dallas was promising also.

I read your comment on Knies maybe playing 3rd line, instead of top 6 and I agree. Maybe a Knies- Domi- Jankrok line could work, depends on where Keefe wants Kampf. How's Domi's faceoffs?

We're well into this play, but somehow Josh Ho-Sang feels to me like the gun that was introduced in the first act.

He's (Dubas) being stingy with the draft picks, so this is certainly a possibility! I wouldn't rule out another forward, especially if he gets Mrazek out of town. For the right player, (a lefty to play with the 2nd line), they should look to add Mikheyev, Holl, or a prospect to get it done.

So, I guess we can't trade him for defensive help? :(

I know all teams go through injuries, but I think it has had an impact on the Leafs season. Like CTB said, most of the Leafs poor play was Pre-Keefe, so if they out perform Florida, we'll be there. The Habs are pretty much out now, the way they are playing.

I think we are really missing Reilly, it's a significant injury for this team to get over, especially with all the other key injuries at other times, to important players. It's not an excuse, but I do see it as a factor. The reason we can't trade our way out of this spot, is being so close to the cap.

I also kind of agree with the notion, maybe this team needs to lose out. I didn't disagree with Ovechkin's comments about our team, that they need to play for each other and I see that they still think they can score their way out of everything. Not this late in the season, you can't...

Should be another nail-biting, one goal game with Les Habs, although, I'd rather rather chase Price from the net. I always wish for that, but it ends up being another one goal game, so this is my prediction, hoping I get the reverse outcome and we pound them..

You need a big strong RHD who can block shots and take the body and clear the net.

I don't for a second think that Buffalo would entertain a deal with us, but that is definitely the kind of young defenseman I'd like to see on Rielly's other side. I've never seen that clip, but now that I have, I like him even more.

I can't remember for sure, but I've heard Ristolainen's name bantered about. If indeed he was available and not just being shown out there for interest, I'd be trying to get him to solve our problems on RD.
I would gather, that a trade with Buffalo would be hard to do, but I like his style. He's only 25 and the points seem there. I was actually surprised to hear his name, but things are ready to esplode in Buffalo, any second!

Yeah, Reilly took a point blast off the foot, in the last game. I'm glad he's playing. He's playing, right?

Quick, trade him to Calgary, I hear they are looking for defense...

As much as I'd like to have Shattenkirk on a cheap deal this year instead of Holl or Smaltz, I highly doubt Shattenkirk would come here.  He's going to want to sign with a team that has an opening on the PP.  With Barrie and Rielly, the Leafs don't have that.

Why wouldn't he come here? I mean, maybe he wants to stay in the NY area, but that leaves Jersey, or Long Island, who could very well call, but I'd think where he slots on the power play, would not hold as much weight, as playing for a team that is ripe to challenge for a cup.
I'd also think that playing with Morgan Reilly would also give pause for consideration from Shattenkirk as well.

I'm just saying that Dubas should make the call and see where he's at, especially if we can get him on a good contract. Why not?

Without delving too far into the Leafs off-season, so far.. I believe that if Shattenkirk is willing to explore signing with a contender and signing for, anywhere near 1.4 million or less, Dubas needs to do whatever he can to sign the guy.
I could live with waiving guys like Harpur and Holl, if it meant having a player like that, even for a year. I don't think Harpur and Holl are in our future anyway. I get that it's nice to have depth, but;

Reilly-Shattenkirk
Muzzin-Barrie
Dermitt-Ceci

Looks like a promising group to me.

17 points in 20 AHL games for Carcone and he's only 22 so, you know, that's maybe something.

Wonder if he has another year waiver exemption also?

You guys were right. Leivo's gone to Van city.

He was kind of raw, but I actually liked Borgman's game. I like that he hits to take the puck and he skates decently well. I actually thought for his first time over here, he did a pretty good job with the 40+ games he got.

I like Borgman over Rosen, but I'm thinking that they are going to give a few of them a good look in camp and through preseason. Ozhiganov, Holl and Borgman could take the 7th spot. I think Liljgren would have to play in the top 4 to make the team, but he could surprise.

My first choice would be to trade for a youngish top 2 guy, but we may not have the cap moving forward..
