I was hoping it would be closer to $1 mil, but don't hate it.

He would have got more somewhere else. Just like Spezza. Good deal. Now get a d man.

Yeah 1.5 is maybe a touch more than I want if he plays 4th line but if we get some 2nd PP/3rd line use that?s not bad.   Hopefully it shuts up the Dubas only signs skill

The right-wing is open after Nylander/Marner so there's a chance he's playing 3RW minutes too if he's up to it.

He'll play. And I'm so sock of listening to the Dubas plan doesn't include tough players.

There was clearly a lot of interest here from the get go. Micah seems to think Simmonds is worth the $1.5m. Wonder if he can play on third line in a pinch. Wonder how he fell off a cliff so fast though, kinda weird. Maybe the Leafs staff can rehabilitate him a bit.

Yeah, I think he's 4th line so maybe twice what you'd want to spend. He used to be pretty good at killing penalties...

He says he's healthier then he's been in a few years.

$1.5M is pretty reasonable for a quality bottom 6 winger.

He did still put up 25+ points playing 3rd line type minutes each of the last two seasons, in spite of his injury issues. If he can come near that and bring the physical game the team needs, that's more than enough value for the Leafs.

Very low risk, addresses some needs and I think there's the possibility of some real upside. Like was said, I don't think anyone is expecting the 30 goal and 60 point Simmonds but 20 goal and 40+ point guy from three years ago?

I'm in on this.

I'm happy for this signing.

As I said in the other thread, there's no way he was getting less than $1.5M. It's actually quite a home-town discount.

Wayne Simmonds is at least this, a guy who can sit in front of the net and get a goal. Something the Leafs have very little of.

I just got sad thinking about the fact that his first fight in Toronto will likely be in an empty arena.

I like it, great start, almost no risk. His contract is fine on the 4th line and a deal if he can play 3rd, and hey, netfront on PP2 would be ideal.

However, I sure hope that they aren't done in revamping the bottom 6. One guy isn't enough to say they addressed this.

One b-hole works for most people (right?), but on a team, you want at least a whole line of b-holes banging bodies together. (phrasing)

That was the problem with Martin (on top of the rather onerous term and caphit) previously: he had to play the game one way and the rest of the line(up) was built another way. But for 1 yr 1.25M with Simmonds as well, and say... Nick Cousins (pesky verbal b-hole) down the middle?

The combination of a pretty (even alarmingly) anatomically correct text pic of a b-hole and right beneath it #BeBlessed just made my day -- also Wayne train signing definitely contributing to my good mood.

Totally agree. I'd go as far as to say that if they don't add least another player to spread the load, Simmonds will be injured trying to provide that dimension himself. I'd love a komorov equivalent and a cousins type. That would completely change the team.

Another advantage that may or not have been mentioned is that getting more of these types of players will likely result in more PP time for the top 6. This is an area that the leafs have handicapped themselves substantially over the last few years.

Why does everyone hate Deangelo?

He has a history of using slurs in the OHL (which his dad defended by saying that he (the dad) used those words every day so it's not a big deal).

He's also the most vocal Trump supporter in the league.

Those two things I'm sure are unrelated.

The stuff of Simmonds? history with injuries is legendary.

Following the 2017-18 season, Simmonds revealed that he had torn his pelvis in training camp. He played through it, which led to a pulled groin. That same season he also broke his ankle, tore a ligament in his thumb (which required pins in his hand after surgery), and lost six teeth to a high stick. Through it all, he missed a total of seven games.

Maybe don?t let him do this...
