2026 Blue Jays

Time to sell free agents and pivot towards next year. Springer, and Varsho as bat. Bieber and Gausman unless he signs an extension.

.

It's good that the team has at least been clear on what they are. This is a terrible offensive team. They have no approach at the plate other than swing aggressively. Teams just don't throw stuff over the middle of the plate and the Jays just chase low and outside without any adjustment. No idea what Popkins and Schneider are doing between games because there just isn't any signs that adjustments are happening.

Vlad continues to casually jog out his perpetual ground balls. Unacceptable effort from a guy making 500 million dollars and not hitting.

Vladdy actively getting worse over his last 30 games based on his splits (batting average). Another ofer last night in another non competitive game. They have been outscored 34-8 in the five games since the all star break. That is simply unacceptable for a team that was inches away from winning the world series.

Diagnosed with a rupture, btw.

My optimism has eroded. Missing Barger is a huge deal which is compounded by the loss of Bichette.

Pitching was great for most of the year but they've hit a wall now.

Oh well, that's baseball I guess.

I don't know if it was Bo that brought the energy but the team just seemed to be lacking something all year. There really wasn't a stretch of the season where it looked like the Jays were going to take control of their season. You'd see a game or two and think "ok maybe" and then it would be followed up by three miserable performances.

They need to review their medical/training staff after this season. It feels like every guy who gets close to returning has soreness and gets shut down again. It's going to happen but when it happens to every guy something isn't being done right.

I think this season really exposes how mediocre of a manager Schneider is. He's more of a vibes coach and doesn't have the ability to make adjustments.

We should expect guys like Vlad and Kirk to be better next year. Okamoto is going to be a solid player. Clement is fine. But SS, LF, RF, CF, DH are all question marks going into next season. Santander coming off two seasons of not playing doesn't excite me at DH or playing bad defensively in the outfield.

The rotation has to replace Gausman, Bieber and Miles/Scherzer.

That's a lot of holes

Barger shut down for the year and Kiley having Tommy John. Our medical stuff is certainly suspect. Conservative therapy is absolutely an appropriate treatment for partial tears but there is a pattern of the organization consistently going with the conservative approach and ending up with surgery multiple times over

Supposedly he'd been dealing with an elbow issue for a couple years already. What the hell are we doing?

Bieber really shot his value in the foot with that last outing. He was looking good in prior starts. Im sure they'll still get something decent for him still defintely hurt his value.

I'm still mad they didn't re-sign Bo.......

He's got a 0.1 WAR this year, can't run, limited defensive value. It would have been nice to see him remain in a Jays uniform but I think letting him walk was the right call.

I'm still mad they caved in to Guerrero's ridiculous contract demands...and that was BEFORE this season's laughable, atrocious performance.

See everyone in 2028. This is going to be a long lockout.

The Dodgers acquire Skubal for their 5th, 7th and 27th best prospects. Arguable the best pitcher in baseball doesn't even get the Dodgers top prospect.

Their luxury tax bill is the 14th highest payroll in baseball

Gausman is out for some prospects as the white flag goes up. There have really been few signs of life after a fairy talke season came crashing to an end. Where to go from here?

And the Jays have also made acquisitions. The offense is just not good enough this year.

They added Jameson Taillon who has been downright bad this year but provides stopgap starting for the rest of the year.

They made a much bigger trade for Jose Soriano from the Angels for Arjun Nimmala, Eddie Micheletti, and Angel Rivera. Nimmala is the only high value asset there and Soriano has good stuff. high 90s fastball and a nasty knuckle curve. Good numbers already but he seems like a guy that Pete Walker has had success turning into a better pitcher.

Nimmala is decently high on the Jays prospect chart. Is this anywhere near what the Dodgers gave up for Skubal?

Not really. Hope (25th on MLB top 100) vs. Nimmala (43rd). Skubal is ultimately still a rental whereas Soriano has 2.5 years of control left.

The Dodgers easily got a far better pitcher but factoring in team control I think this is fine.

I will say that while I'm lukewarm on the overall job that Atkins has done as GM, he's done a solid job pivoting off some of our higher end prospects and getting good value. I hated the Austin Martin trade at the time but that clearly was the right move when acquiring Berrios.
