2025-26 NHL Thread

I've always wondered if it was worth trying to pluck Matthew Poitras from out of there. I think he'd have to pass through waivers next season though so I don't know if we'd really have room for him now.
From what I read, Poitras isn't waiver exempt because he played more then 11 games the year he signed when he was 19.

Grier is a good GM.
This is what I want for the Leafs. A GM that makes these types of moves. They somehow find deals where they can build up assets. The Leafs have got to stop believing that their wealth is a way to fix things.

You know, maybe in a way, running the Leafs on a budget might be a good thing, if that is indeed what is happening behind the scenes.

One avenue breeds complacency while the other fosters creativity.

100%. I read an article in Maclean's years ago that talked about the virtual monopoly that Microsoft had, and how it killed all innovation in that company. For example, when Google came out, and became so successful that it became synonymous with searching on the web, did Microsoft take their money and invest in their developers and ask them to go build a better search engine?

No. They went and bought a company that already had a search engine. And then they killed the innovation in that company as well.

Necessity is the mother of invention. If you have more money than you know what to do with, you do not have necessity. This is why I ultimately believe that the rabid Leaf fanbase is the cause of the Leafs problem. We give them so much money, that they don't have to be clever.
