Nic Roy to Avalanche

Like a lot of players I would have loved to see what Roy could have done under a different coach. Think he had a lot more to give, but the situation we're in meant some players just had to go.

Wonder if they circle back on keeping Laughton now.

Yeah, and if that is that case, I kinda think that Roy is the better player, so maybe they traded the wrong guy and kept the wrong guy. But that's something to be angry for in a couple of years.

I agree. Right player. Wrong time and regime.

Oh well.

I’d probably still move Laughton anyway tbh

Tough to say. Gun to my head I'd say Roy is the better player yeah, but he also has an extra year on his deal so if we're only dealing one that means Roy brings back more value.

My heart also says I'd love to see Laughton stick around long-term. He's clearly got the Passion and if he does re-sign hopefully it's to a hometown-ish contract. And I think he too has more to give after being largely pigeonholed into the 4C spot the entire time he's been here. But also if a team offers up a 1st for him as well I'd probably have to take it too.
 
It's a return. It's good, but we also lost a good player for what will be a very late 1st round pick a full year from now. Maybe we keep it. Maybe we trade it to improve the team elsewhere, but the team is worse after this trade.

I think it's a shame that this organization was cowardly in December and didn't fire Berube to see if a different coach could get more out of this group of players. It clearly wasn't working and it's a shame that we never even attempted to pivot.

I really hope Laughton gets traded. Obviously he could like the greener grass elsewhere but the why can't he be our Daniel Winnik where we trade him and then bring him back next year. I'd like to see him back, but it's negligent to not get assets for him. He's the kind of guy who teams overpay for at the deadline.
 
I liked the return. Roy was not even on the top Leafs to be traded Radar.

And the Leafs can either hold to that (they should In case Colorado sucks next year and be out of contention) or they can use to address a more immediate help.
