He was the wrong hire to begin with. Same with Berube.
 
I'm still trying to rap my head around this dumping into corner thing when trailing.....and not getting puck possession. I'm not sure what kind of style this is. I don't know what I'm watching. I don't think the players even know. What is this?

Beats me. I'll never understand telling your elite players to give the puck away and then go get it. I want my skilled guys playing a possession game. I want them to control the puck...Kind of like OT. Control the puck, control the play. Loved that about Keefe's system. It was very rare the Leafs ever dumped the puck in when he coached here even when they were changing.
 
Is it any wonder Matthews has basically been depressed since Berube got to Toronto?

The players do not like Berube in the least and are playing to get him fired.

This team is not this bad.

Also, Berube constantly beaking off at Nylander on the bench is getting tired. Why isn't he yelling at anyone else? Nylander is what he is and you know what you are getting. A goal scorer.

A lot of coaches would go after Nylander for his 100 ft, bruise-free game.

This he is what he is, doesn't fly or excuse him from not trying away from the puck. He's tied for 31st in goals so far so nothing to write home about.
Berube gave him shit against CBJ for good reason. Being one of the fastest skaters on the team yet usually being the last guy back in your zone isn't good. Yes he got 2pts against CBJ and that's great but overall, he was terrible. I also believe his lack of effort has an effect on the rest of the guys and that's another reason Berube is on him.
As for why he doesn't yell so much at anyone else? Willy is arguably the laziest person on the team away from the puck. If a guy like Robertson put in that effort, he'd be in the pressbox, permanently. His effort at times is unacceptable plain and simple.

You can't just keep saying he is who he is. That doesn't excuse him for putting in an effort. It's obviously not enough in Berube's eyes, just like it wasn't for Keefe. It's all deserved. What would you do? Me, I'd sit his ass. You want to be lazy, have a seat.

I am definitely not someone who rage quit the forum two years ago after a loss to Ottawa, stayed away for most of that time, and then when things got really bad had to come back to find support because he is a Leaf fan who lives in Ottawa and is now thinking about trying to start a movement where Leaf fans stop watching the team so that their revenues drop and they eventually have to move to Quebec City.

Nope, definitely don't know who you are talking about.

Then trade him.

One job of a coach is to be a motivator. I don't see how Berube turning red in the face yelling at Nylander on the bench during a game is motivation.

Nylander has been in the league almost 10 years. If the Leafs haven't figured out how to use his strengths and how to mitigate his weak spots, then trade him. It's a toxic environment that Berube has lost the handle on.

He’s the Mogilny of this generation. He’s not the entire team. Show me a team that has 24 relentless players that are hard hitting 200 ft scoring players. You build around talent and proper roles.

That’s why you can make a case for someone like Kampf over Domi. I would trade Domi for a poster of Kerfoot at this point.

I would have traded him and maybe Dubas would have before he was fired. They are mitigating his weak spots. That's why he plays with Tavares or Matthews because they know where their end is and put in an effort to get back.
Again, it doesn't excuse him for being LAZY. That's the issue. Answer this. Who does 88 try harder then on the back check or in the D zone?

Exactly this. I never understand when people complain about elite goal scorers who don't hit enough or play better defense..I mean..if they could score that much AND be great defensively AND physically, then they would be a once in a lifetime, generational player. Kessel went through this too (and I guess Kaberle and Sundin, as well, to some similar extent, though those were more undeserved) and it really comes down to roles and building a team that accentuates the styles and skills of different players

Nylander absolutely has faults and its understandable for people to call him out for certain lazy plays and brain farts. But I think it's nuts to expect someone on pace for a 40-goal, 120+ point season to maintain that level AND be a consistent defensive asset, under the threat of contant, public scrutiny and shame, as GT put it.
