The Angels may have just done the Blue Jays/Royals a big favour. By mounting a crazy 5 run comeback in the 9th to beat the Rangers it may mean that, in order to clinch the West tomorrow, the Rangers will start Cole Hamels in which case he would either not be ready for game one of the LDS or pitch on short rest.

The playoff scenarios are interesting heading into tomorrow for the Wildcard and AL West.  Not to mention that Kansas City winning means the Jays have to win likely today and tomorrow to keep a guaranteed home field in the ALCS.

Yankees Win - They clinch home field in the Wild-card
Yankees Lose + Houston Wins + Anaheim wins - Houston and Texas play a tiebreaker for the division and the loser of that game has to play the Yankees at Yankee stadium for the wildcard.

Houston loss (tonight and tomorrow) + Anaheim win - Houston and Anaheim have to play a tiebreaker for the wildcard. 

Houston not sweeping the Diamondbacks is pretty much impossible however as they are an awful team that has absolutely no character.
 
Last night's Blue Jays 8-4 victory over the Rays saw Kevin Pillar make a highlight reel diving catch, (he leapt nearly 3.5ft flying off the ground perpendicular to the ground), that just about awed the opposition:

Osuna struggled to find the zone and the Rays beat the Jays 4-3 in the 9th.  Navarro kept having Osuna trying to pick the outside corner.  Sometimes it's better to attack hitters.  Not sure I get that approach from Navarro.

I wonder why he wasn't going to the changeup that was so effective early in the season.  Had 2 outs and was ahead in the count before walking 2 guys.  Oh well.
 
Buehrle gets the final start. That is a nice gesture, seeing as how he won't be starting in the playoffs.

He is already behind 6-0 having only picked up 2 outs. The errors by Goins and EE didn't help.

Edit: 7-0 now, and he gets yanked. Sentimentality costs the Jays 7 runs, and he won't get his 200 innings this year. Looks like Jays will get the West champs in the first round.

So it was sentimentality that started EE at first? There's a reason only one of those runs is earned.

Those two errors and a umpire who was squeezing the strike zone did him in.  His arm is tired and he couldn't locate so when everything just off the plate is called a ball it means he's forced to throw over the middle of the plate to get a strike call.  No runs would have crossed the plate had Goins and Encarnacion not let him down.

Oh look...the strike zone has expanded in the 2nd inning.

Sorry. I'm at work this afternoon and don't get to experience the nuances of the game like that (strike zone) and have to follow on Yahoo / MLB. I agree the errors were the turning point and no runs should have scored. But you are also correct in that his arm is tired and that also contributed to him not being able to overcome the adversity.

Yea, I mean he just pitched 7 innings Friday night, it's a pretty tall order for any pitcher, let alone one struggling with a self-described dead arm late in the season.
