  • David Price steps into the Saturday slot to face off against Chris Archer leaving Buehrle to pitch on Sunday.  Buehrle needs to pitch 14.2 innings to reach 200 innings on the season.  He has two projected starts left.  Buehrle has only thrown 8 or more innings 4 times this year and hasn't pitched 7.0 innings since August 13th.
  • Troy Tulowitzki has been throwing and swinging a bat again.  Gibbons thinks there might be a chance Tulo returns prior to the end of the regular season either during the Baltimore or final Tampa series.
  • The Jays are 3-3 on this homestand and currently sit 3.0 games up on the Yankees for the AL East Pennant race.
  • The Jays would clinch a playoff spot with a win and an loss from both the Twins and Angels tomorrow.

And Carlos Carrasco throws a one hitter with fifteen strikeouts to beat the Royals.
 
If the Angels win tonight they'll be a half game back of the Astros for the second wild card. Mike Trout, meanwhile, has put up a September slashline of .288/.407/.658 and that's before tonight where he's already 2 for 2 with a double.

The AL MVP vote might be very close.

Edit: Although it should be said that despite it being a narrative that some people were trying to advance, Donaldson was never having a "bad" September. He had a bad 10 days or so in the middle of September but his OPS for the month never really dipped below .840 or so.

The only two Royals in today's lineup that were in yesterday's lineup were Zobrist and Rios.  Can't quite say it worked out for them.

I should add that today's lineup is pretty much purely a consequence of having clinched their division yesterday, and presumably all that followed.

Yankees lost, Royals lost, Twins lost (eliminated from catching the Jays).  The Jays are now just 1.0 games back of the Royals with 9 games to go.

The Jays have officially clinched baseball past game 162 on the season.  Houston and the Angels at best can tie the Jays at this point so even if the Jays fell apart and lost the division they have guaranteed a pre-wild-card playoff game.  On top of that, Houston has two more games against the Rangers and the Angels play the Rangers 4 times.  So if Houston or the Angels lose a game, the Jays clinch.  If the Rangers get swept in those 6 games, they are eliminated and the Jays clinch a playoff spot. 

Postseason baseball is officially here!
 
Great outing for Jays' starting pitcher R.A. Dickey who went 7.5 innings and got the win, his 100th of his career, on the Jays'  5-3 victory last night.

I know a lot of people will look at the score and say the pitching sucked but, to be fair, four of the eight runs were unearned so the pitching and the defense sucked.

True, but there's still also the Archer half of the equation:  3.2 innings, 10 hits, 5 walks, 9 ER.
 
Well, at least the Blue Jays are playoff bound with the win today over the Rays!  22 years in the making!

David Price, Jays' starter fared a little better than the Rays Archer, in giving up four runs.
The Jays, by the way, lead the Majors in the home run category, including most home runs scored in the first inning (33).

So many runs but still a great victory no less.

Bizarre waking up to find the Jays had actually clinched a playoff spot after the Twins loss last night, except nobody knew, including MLB!

The win today guarantees a home playoff game for the Jays.

The Jays have clinched at worst the 1st wild-card slot and are just 5 games away from clinching the division.  If Kansas City loses today (down 4-2 to Cleveland in the 4th inning) the Jays would also move into 1st place in the American League.
