Series 47: The Final Homestand - Yankees @ Blue Jays

I nearly drove off the road listening to Navarro's home run. I turn on the game seconds before Bird's home run. Crap.  >:(
 
I mean, there's no two ways about it. The Bullpen hasn't been particularly good of late absent Cecil last night. It doesn't matter who gets used or where, they're just not getting it done.

It seems like the last two decades, no matter who has been on the team, they just know how to grind the Jays down.

The franchise has only finished last in a division three times or something in their history. That's insane.

Yeah. What's stung about the last three losses has been wasting good starts. If they were getting thumped around that'd be one thing but losing because the Bullpen has lost the plot and nobody can get a hit when they need one is bound to be a little more frustrating.
 
The Astros loss at least puts them to 5 games from clinching this 1st wild-card spot.
 
Yeah the magic number for clinching a playoff spot (obviously 2nd wildcard) is 4.
So the Jays can go 4-7 (or potentially worse) and still be in the playoffs.
Not that they will play that badly, but just showing how a playoff spot is in the bag! (this isn't 87)

As for winning the division I'm mostly worried about the number of games left against Tampa because they always seem to play the Jays tough. If the Jays win tomorrow and get the lead back up to 3.5 games I think that may be enough of a cushion to win the division. At 1.5 games though I'll be biting my nails.

This series has been nothing short of thrilling, nail-biting, tense, and downright exciting to watch, plus all the makings of a playoff tilt.

C'mon Blue Jays.  No more stranded baserunners, please.

Clinching either wildcard doesn't clinch a playoff spot. They would have to win a one-game playoff to make the playoffs.

So let's say they play the Wild Card game but lose it, how do they represent that with a banner? haha

Imagine now if the Jays and Yankees tie for the division.  They go with either Price or Stroman for the tiebreaker.  Lose that game, and they play the one game wild card, which you go with the other.  Does that mean Estrada is the Game 1 starter of the ALDS if it gets to that?  A few extra factors for Gibbons to juggle in the final days if the teams are a game or two apart.

Yeah, that's what makes things interesting.  The other wrinkle that kind of sucks.  The Jays could be in that 3-way tie.  They would play at home against the Yankees.  If they lost that game, even if the 3rd place team had a worse head-to-head matchup the Jays automatically play on the road for that game.  So they would burn Price/Stroman in the two games plus have to travel Toronto to say Houston and then head right to Kansas City to play the Royals.  Definitely don't want to get stuck into that kind of situation.
