Woah, feel like this could be pretty massive. Bishop missed all of last season with an injury but had a .920 Sv% in 19/20 and a 0.934 Sv% in 18/19 when he finished 2nd in Vezina voting. Even if he doesn't get back to those numbers as long as he can play I think this is a very good bet for Seattle to make. His contract isn't even really that bad, especially for a team with a blank slate.

Take Jake Allen from Montreal and that's a pretty solid 1-2 goaltending tandem.

I think they should aim higher than Allen. I'd go Bishop and try to sign Driedger. Vanecek in Washington will also likely be exposed if they want to go with a cheaper/younger option.
 
That's 100% a risk I'd take if I was trying to emulate Vegas and their instant competitiveness. I'm still not sure that's the smartest long term strategy though.

I'm not in tune with the fan excitement of the Kraken in Seattle.  I think Vegas benefitted from being good right away to build up the appeal of hockey in what is otherwise a non-traditional hockey environment.  Seattle I am assuming is going to have to steal fans away from Vancouver right now and the Canucks aren't really looking like they will be goodfor the next couple of years.  Maybe being competitive early on is a good strategy for building up a core fanbase even if it does somewhat limit their ability to be competitive long-term.

I don't disagree but is there really anyone else worth taking from Montreal? Jake Evans?  Does Montreal expose Drouin and take a chance on him performing away from the Montreal press?  Erik Gustavsson?

Honestly even if the choice was between Allen and garbage I'd rather take the garbage than have Allen locked into one of Seattle's 2 goalie spots instead of a number of other better goalie options. But I think Evans would be a decent pick. One of Chariot or Edmundson would also be available if they go the 7F-3D route and either would be appealing for them.

Are there rules against taking Allen and trading him elsewhere?
 
Apparently the Habs will be exposing Weber, but he is going to miss next year, and may never play again.  That doesn't seem right.  I'm thinking of the situation where they expose him, Seattle doesn't pick him because the current thought is he isn't going to play again, but then what if he recovers and he does play next year?

I mean he's eligible to be exposed as long as he is still active.  I am sure that both Montreal and Nashville would prefer him to just be on LTIR rather than retire due to cap recapture penalties.

I'm not aware of any obligation from teams to provide medical reports to Seattle on the players they don't protect...so that's up to Seattle on whether they want to take that risk or not.
 
I think if they exposed him and he ended up playing game 1 of the 21/22 regular season the league would probably ask some questions and Montreal would be opening themselves up to some penalties if they were found to be doing anything sketchy. At this point that really doesn't seem worth the risk.

I don't remember the format for how things played out with the expansion draft for Vegas.

Lists have to be submitted by Saturday but the draft isn't until next week.  Are the lists released before that or kept private?  And then all transactions are stopped between the submission and the expansion draft or are players that are technically still exempt able to be moved.

Lists will be made public officially sometime on Sunday. There's a transaction freeze between July 17-22 (except for Seattle if they choose to sign an exposed free agent).

Looks ike they want him and his salary gone. I think we'll see a few more of these. Cheaper then a buyout if Seattle takes him. If they don't, then they still can buy him out by July 27th if that's the way they want to go.
