SCF: Florida Panthers vs. Edmonton Oilers

I'd probably lean a little more toward wanting to see Florida win. Whatever rivalry there is here aside it's clear they've built a very solid team there through a variety of ways (draft, free agency, trades, waivers).

Really though I'd just like to see Sam Reinhart do whatever he needs to to make sure he gets priced out of returning to Florida next season.

McDavid is going to get punched in the jaw 'accidentally' during a hit and Draisaitl will get hacked in the Achilles 'accidentally' during a powerplay, and that will be the series.

Was actually surprised that Dallas didn't play rough. Florida will have no issues getting rough.

I'm of two minds... it's easy to see how each team could take this. McDavid and Draisaitl just go off, Hyman keeps scoring and Skinner keeps rolling. On the other hand, I think Florida knows how to grind teams to a pulp, and Barkov may be able to hold McDavid in some level of check. Goaltending really can go either way this series.

Florida beat Vasi, Swayman and Shesterkin. Skinner isn't in that world. Barkov creates a different challenge for the Oilers.

Florida should win this. I hope they don't. I can respect that others in here don't much like the Oilers, but they were the first team I remember cheering for when I started getting interested in hockey. I'll cheer for the Leafs over them now, sure, but for now, go Oil.

Florida needs to stay out of the box. Oilers PP needs to keep on clicking for them to win, seeing as how they went a few games without a PPG against Dallas. Not sold on Skinner. He was solid, but is still prone to Sammy-like moments.

Now that the Oilers spoiled my run picking winners, I may as well go with my heart and pick them to win the cup in 6. My head says Florida.

McDavid wills his way to a Cup, then can say he delivered when signing with the Leafs after the 25 season.

EDIT:  Wondering what Draisaitl does...he's up after the coming season?

Pretty much this. Florida has some flaws but they don't matter all that much when they can forecheck you into the end boards ad nauseum. Edmonton's weaknesses are glaring under that type of pressure. McDavid might breakthrough for a goal here or there, but I think the rest of the Oiler depth is going to get pulverized.

Florida went from -21 in penalty differential to +8 in the postseason.  Edmonton isn't going to get a lot of powerplay opportunities in the Cup finals and Florida is going to get dirty after the whistles.  I fully expect Draisaitl to snap and two hand someone.

Feeling totally blase about this pairing, I'll watch if I'm home with nothing to do, other than that, meh. If I had to choose, I would hope the Oilers to win it on the road. No ecstatic fans to deal with and lots of Panther schadenfreude lol

I think Florida is the better team. They have the better goaltending and defense. Edmonton has the high powered forwards.

But there is a reason why they play the games ...

I'm on the fence with preference as I usually pull for CDN teams but I also wouldn't mind seeing Paul Maurice win a Cup. I've always liked the guy.

One thing I have wondered about this series: sometimes the roster design of the Cup winner is used as a template for future contenders. Because of the different way the rosters are constructed and the way they play, I wonder if the outcome will have more influence than normal - particularly if the series outcome is lopsided.

It's kind of ridiculous they waited an entire week to start this series, this isn't the SuperBowl one game winner take all, why the hell hasn't this series started already?  NHL doing NHL things again.

I heard it was more dictated by TV availability etc. more than anything.
