Round 2: Capitals (M1) vs. Penguins (M2)

I've seen easily a dozen embellishment plays go uncalled in these playoffs (and un-fined). Kadri's going to thrive in the postseason.

edit: Also, Kadri was only fined because Babcock complained. And the other two fines that were handed out that day were just smokescreens for that. No doubt in my mind.
 
Pierre McGuire takes jabs at analytics during games basically every chance he gets. Probably upset that he didn't get the Arizona job.

I know it's an odd thing to say with the series at 3-1 for Pittsburgh but I've really been impressed with Washington. The way they've carried the play and really neutralized Pittsburgh's bigger threats really speaks to how solid a group they've got.

Pittsburgh on a 50/51 PK stretch.  Hard to beat teams when you can't score on the PP.  Having Fleury injured might have been the best thing for the Penguins playoff run.

Washington  5  Pittsburgh  3.  Penguins lead series 3 games to 2.

Not this time.  The Washington Capitals were not ready to concede defeat and be eliminated by the Penguins, at home at the Verizon Center in Game 5.  Nope.  Absolutely not.

Well, the fact that the Capitals power-play came alive just in time tells the tale of the game.  Prior to Game 5, Washington was 2 for 13 with the man advantage in this series.  It all turned around in Game 5, as the Capitals made short work of Pittsburgh's defence and goaltending.

The Penguins Matthew Murray, who had been stellar in Game 4, was the victim of several Capitals goals with the extra advantage.  The fact that the Penguins were sloppy in their own zone certainly didn't help the cause.

On the other side of the fence, Washington netminder Brandon Holtby was stellar. Tough to score on when in full gear, as Holtby has been for the Capitals this season and throughout these playoffs.

Game 6 is in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Kessel makes it 1-0 Pens.  I'm a little torn.  Would love to see the Pens pick be better for the Leafs but I think it would be great if Kessel is the one scoring important goals.
 
I'm not so much bothered by the fact that the team traded Kessel away, it's the apparent disdain that Shanny seemed to have toward him that will always irk me. Ah well. Probably no Matthews without that move anyway.
