Getting swept was part of the plan?

Penguins ownership instructed Dubas that they wanted another kick at the can with Crosby, Malkin and Letang. By the sounds of it, Dubas tried to convince them otherwise that they could get some assets in return for those players and kick start a rebuild.

So yeah, maybe in Dubas' head this was the plan to show ownership that with your three "best" players pushing 40 a cup is not in the cards.

I think we are giving Dubas way too much credit in that reading. The plan is to try and thread the needle not to get crushed in the first round on purpose.

Yeah, I agree. To me, it's another example of Dubas building teams that succeed in the regular season but struggle in the playoffs. Pittsburgh was never going to win the Cup, but they shouldn't be on the verge of being swept by the Flyers.

I picked the Penguins to win in 7, so I'm a little surprised at them being on the verge of being swept.

Dubas had meddling ownership in Toronto and now in Pittsburgh. To me it's difficult to judge Dubas and the teams performance (Leafs and Penguins) and say this a GM problem.

Crosby with 0 goals and 1 assist through 3 games probably isn't the performance the Pens were hoping for when they delayed their rebuild just to get him back into the playoffs.
