Parise's one year deal with NJD is worth $6M.

Too bad for Lou that they couldn't work out something more long term but in the mean time, 6 mil. is a pretty good number for Parise I think.

It's a very interesting situation, because it means Parise is scheduled to become a UFA next summer. Could the rumours of him wanting out of NJ be true?

Could be. I've been reading rumours all summer long about Parise is upset about the whole Kovalchuk thing.

All rumour and speculation but the idea is that Parise didn't like all the attention Kovy was getting. Parise feels he's the marquee player on the team and his salary should represent that and knows it likely never will now... yada, yada, yada....

SCORE!

Parise next year, Getzlaf and Perry the year after, then Stamkos in 5 years.  We're gonna be hella-good!  8)  :o

We won't have enough cap space to sign parise next year unless we manage to trade komisarek or trade/demote lupul or Connolly.

I really believe it might be that he feels he was a bit past up for Kovalchuk on that top left wing position last year. I mean how couldn't he, unless they were planning on converting one of them to either the other wing or to the center position, which also doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Make sense or not that seems to be what they did as Parise got the most ES time on a line with Kovalchuk and Zajac in the 13 games he played.

And it was Kovalchuk who got moved to the right wing when they did play together, not Parise.

If I had to guess, this 1-year deal has more to do with the fact that Parise essentially missed all of last season with an injury than his feud with Kovalchuk.

I could be wrong about this but isn't RW Kovalchuk's original position? Heatley is also listed as a LW and I know he and Kovalchuk were very productive together.

Either way, I tend to think switching wings isn't the biggest deal in the world.

It's a little difficult to prove it either way, but I always thought that Heatley and Kovalchuk played on separate lines in Atlanta (although maybe I'm thinking of Kovalchuk and Hossa). Regardless, I do think switching wings played a small role in Kovalchuk's struggles last season. His move back to left-wing coincided with his surge in points in the last half of the season.
