FLA
?Sergei Bobrovsky will likely start for the Panthers
?Florida has started the season with some key players out with injuries. Bennett was hurt in training camp and is nearing a return but won't play tonight. Ekblad and Montour's injuries are of course from their playoff run in the spring and they're still due to miss some significant time

TOR
?Ilya Samsonov will start for the Leafs
?Keefe made one change to the Leafs forward lines at practice on Wednesday moving Knies up from the 3rd line to the 2nd line as the search for a proper 3rd member of the Tavares-Nylander line continues

Out of my mind, I cannot get the following: the flaaaaaaaaat effort we put it in the decider games last spring.

The Panthers, 3GP, have scored 8 goals this season, 4 at 5v5. Their matches vs New Jersey and Winnipeg appear to have been track meets, while Minnesota was allowed to establish their game and bored them into 2-0 submission. Rodrigues and Reinhart are doing most of their damage.

Their speed will be a test for the Leafs' depth defense and current communication issues, but Florida's own defense is in shambles (OEL top pair) so we should be able to get some good looks behind them when Barkov is off ice.

Klingberg and Giordano paired together that should be disaster.Let's put our 2 slowest D men together sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately this is what we got but not liking our D so in my opinion something needs to happen. McCabe -5 after 3 games. I know it's early but I really see our D being our weakness this year. Panthers are missing some key pieces tonight so we should win the game but need a better effort than Monday.

Domi shouldn't be near that top 6. Winger on the 3rd line (or at C, where he really excelled last year) makes the most sense to me for him. I think Robertson, Domi, Jankrok and Gregor, Kampf, Steeves could be a very nicely balanced bottom of the lineup

Also...isn't Klingberg, like, fast?

I tried looking into this and... I don't know. He doesn't appear as lead-footed as Giordano out there, I thought he's looked fine.

Why can't the NHL get with the times? I'm able to easily tell you/find Vlad Jr's sprint speed first to second but NHL skating speeds? Nada.

Klingberg is not slow, but he's also not agile. His speed generally comes from a) Swedish training of skating mechanics b) length of stride.

The most important thing for a Klingberg partner is he must be instinctively boring, always defaulting to a safe, conservative posture/position on the ice. Giordano, knowing himself at this juncture of his career, will be fine as a safety net (but you'd better have F3 ready to truck back hard to support). He's been a good safety net for the developing RDs who are more offensively inclined (Liljegren/Timmins).

So is this game as close to a must win game as we have had this year?

Obviously Game 4 doesn't really matter but I do think this is a game the Leafs need to make a statement in.  They don't need to get dirty with the Panthers.  They don't even need to win this one (although with the Panthers injuries they better) but I think this needs to be a real serious effort game...particularly coming off that putrid Chicago game.

Not a great start again.  Team is definitely a big work in progress right now.  Paying Kampf to not take defensive faceoffs is looking really stupid right now

Verhaeghe slashing at Sammy after he has the puck covered.  Reaves sure is stopping all this stuff from rats.
