NHL Draft 2026

My goofy (not a scout) Leaf-centric comps on playstyles, not necessarily level.

Gavin McKenna: gifted manipulator of time and space, Mitch Marner but with a left handed laser cannon (+ATT,-DEF) and a happy, grounded family support system

Alexander Bilecki: two-way transition LD with nice wheels and vision, Jake Gardiner

Ethan McKenzie: fierce, big minute muncher, Jake McCabe with better wheels

Zach Olsen: relentless forechecker, Zach Hyman

Måns Gudmansson: rangy transition defender, back half of his career OEL

Juuso Ainasto: athletic big goalie with a mean streak, Anthony Stolarz

Patriks Plūmiņš: affably stands up to significant shelling but a bit of a space cadet, Joseph Woll

Cooper Williams: cerebral two-way playmaking centre in Saskatchewan, Adam Brooks

Yaroslav Fedoseyev: unknown smooth puck moving RD, Connor Timmins

Brody Pepoy: zippy checking winger with lots of tools but no clue (yet), Kasperi Kapanen

Having three daughters who were teens at that time, the dinner table conversation was more like a table reading of the TMZ website.

I had three boys. Our dinner conversations were interesting, in that they were all over the map. Never knew what we would be talking about on any given night.

As an aside, I accidentally made my wife cry a couple of weeks ago, because my son was home from school for a weekend. I forced all of us to have a dinner together. She asked why it was so important, and I said it was because I didn't know how many more dinners like that we were going to get.

There's a lot of Marner/Nylander in his game.
McKenna has better puck holding than Marner; Marner's stick is too long to puckhandle in his hip pocket. He's a more creative passer than Nylander, who has a lot of deception but passes generally quite heavy and it's difficult for recipients with stone hands, which is the bulk of his teammates. Nylander is very adept at manipulating defenders and attacking them as soon as they commit; Marner is very good at manipulating space/lanes/defensive gravity and McKenna does both of these things very well. His shot is in between Nylander and Marner levels but at this point seems severely underrated because of his hallmark playmaking ability.

More of a power game to Nylander since 2020; check out 8:22 in
