Not sure if I should start a new thread on this...

We had Netflix for a while, but the content in Canada was awful.  Now, apparently, many people are using a dns or ip cloaker to make it look like their in the US.  You then get full Netflix.

Has anyone tried this?

I currently use this and it is awesome, even when I don't change my DNS settings, the Canadian one is pretty good now. I would recommend getting Netflix, I use it quite a bit and the flexibility of viewing it on a video game system or tablet makes it more convenient.

Apparently UnBlock-us is a $5/mth unblocker for Netflix.  Is this something I could change myself without paying the monthly fee?

I use a VPN. The US Netflix has much more selection, but it goes both ways. There are movies that are only available on the Canadian Netflix.

It's actually surprising how much more content there is on the US version. I pay about 5 bucks a month for the vpn service and I think it's worth it.

I also can switch my VPN to London, England and can watch all the BBC shows on their iPlayer such as the new season of Top Gear.

This is the VPN and use (http://proxpn.com/). You can use it for free but they limit your d/l speed. It's still fast enough to stream video on Netflix.

I'll need to try and set it up through my Rogers router/modem so that it'll run on laptop/XBOX/Tablet etc.

Do you pay now?  Do they take Paypal by chance - not sure I want these places having me CC info...

I use UnBlock-us for the extra $5 a month, but if you can find a solid american DNS, you can do it on your own without paying. The problem is, most of the DNS numbers they tell you to use on youtube, stop working after days/weeks of being posted.

There's actually some shows on the Canadian Netflix I actually miss, but for the most part switching to American Netflix was a good idea. Still, don't think it's not at least a little bit of a trade off.

I should also point out, that with a VPN solution instead of a DNS switch, I can connect and disconnect from it and switch from Canadian and American Netflix with the click of a mouse.

I pay now. It allows me to choose the city I connect through and doesn't limit my speed.

It's free...you can turn it on and off as needed...it's perhaps a little less than perfect..but i've been quite happy with it.  It's just a plug in for your browser and then you can go to netflix.com/hulu/bbc.com's iplayer  and a few others
