More reason that the IOC is a Joke

The IOC has decided that as of 2020, Wrestling will no longer be a part of the Olympics.  That's just insane that you would cut one of the oldest traditions in favour of keeping the Modern Pentathalon.

Or field hockey.

I just can't believe they would cut a sport with not only such a rich history but such an international legacy.  This isn't like women's slow pitch where basically the US dominates.  Participation and competitiveness in Greco Roman wrestling is international.

Agreed that this is ridiculous. There are a number of events that should go before wrestling. Seven different flavours of yachting, target shooting, and cycling. How about golf?  My favorite sport is soccer. How about getting rid of Olympic soccer. Its pretty much garbage to watch compared to the euros, champions league and the world cup. I wouldn't mind if it was dropped.

Wrestling now joins seven other sports vying for one opening on the 2020 program: a combined bid from baseball and softball, karate, squash, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboarding and the martial art of wushu.

The IOC executive board will meet in May in St. Petersburg, Russia, to decide which sport or sports to propose for 2020 inclusion. The final vote will be made at the IOC general assembly in September in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
