Leafs part ways with Berube

Just gotta give him a lot of rope and let him know that there will be a pivot off contention if the team flounders next season and that he won't be scapegoated into a firing.

Just have Pridham draft up a buyout proof contract for Carle before he runs in his workstation at the end of June.

I mean if their focus is limiting leaks and there's a post leaking information... Methinks then that the leaks have not been plugged.

It feels like they’re doing a better job with direct information out of the MLSE umbrella since the draft lottery, but it’s really hard to stop info from the external parties they engage with and every administrative layer that information passes through in processing decisions into actions. With social media, everyone has some measure of reach.

I was surprised to read recently that MLSE employees over 3,000 full and part time employees. Now, there are a number of teams, facilities, etc but that large number makes plugging leaks tougher - just by the shear number of employed eyes on the corporation (ignoring the large fan base ...). For example, if some notable sports figure comes for an interview, to tour a facility or to haggle a contract for example, many employees could recognize them. I'm sure they take steps to minimize that. But imagine David Carle is being approached and they'd probably like him to see their training and practice facilities, etc. I'm sure it is easier in a smaller market.

All the tier 2 insiders got the text from Carle’s camp after the tier 3/4 tweets started gaining traction. The tier 1’s aren’t saying anything until something is locked in.

As of my writing this, yep. It’s on his list (he’s into hockey (junior, college), Catholicism, and money stuff, and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Well, it makes perfect sense. Leafs = The Vatican according to Burke. The Leafs are paying Carle a bunch of money and he needs to know what to do with it.

Just waiting for the Polymarket odds to stack up before swinging big with the eleventh hour bid before the Leafs announce his hire.

The play by play announcer for the Pembroke Lumber Kings (the team once coached by Sheldon Keefe quite successfully before he was hired by Dubas in the Soo)
I used to listen to his podcast Pucks In Deep but they stopped doing it a few years back.

So Carle's out, Malhotra's out (hired in Vancouver), Woodcroft's apparently not even being interviewed. That would have been my top-3 heading into the coach search. Curious where they go from here. Cassidy is of course still kicking around although reports didn't seem to suggest he was high up on the Leafs list.

Jussi Ahokas is a name that seems to be getting thrown around online. He's a Finnish coach who joined the Kitchener Rangers a few years ago and just led them to an OHL championship and Memorial Cup win. Feels slightly off the board but that's probably the way the Leafs are leaning for this hire anyway.

Especially given the current state of the union in Leafland, I'm not sure a rookie coach would easily survive the media scrutiny that's inevitable.
