Leafs part ways with Berube

I mean, someone has to coach here, even if it isn't the most enticing option. And maybe it's not Carle, but I'd wager that we want a coach to help build a program and be here for the long haul. I don't think Chayka is going to pitch a coach that is known to have a short shelf life on a 2 or 3yr deal and fire him after year 2 and have MLSE eat more salary. This is why I don't think a guy like Bruce Cassidy makes sense right now and we would lean younger and more progressive with more job security.

I watched an interview of Carle on one of the Leafs podcasts the other day, and Carle was critical of the firing of NHL coaches lately, and the gist of it was that he didn't have those kinds of worries at DU.

David Carle, Jay Woodcroft, Jeff Halpern are the three names I'm hoping for one of; there are bound to be some other similar contenders that I have no awareness of.

From the PPP article above:
David Carle's family owns/operates KFC franchises in Alaska and I'm starting to see the synergies Chayka and Carle might cook up. Sloppy Joe Big Crunches for starters.

I think Woodcroft would still be the best fit for the Leafs specifically right now (and also potentially long-term) for the reasons I brought up the other day, but it's tough to not recognize that Carle is by far the brightest coaching "prospect" that the league has seen in a very long time. I mean I'm not even sure I remember someone with zero head coaching experience in the NHL, let alone zero professional coaching period, getting the hype that he's had over the last couple of years. So yeah I mean that would be a pretty huge get for the organization.

The thing that stood out in the MLHS profile was how much Carle got out of his rosters with more middle of the road prospects.
