Kraken vs. Leafs - Jan. 29th, 10:00pm - SN

I don't agree with people who say you can't change GMs mid-season. I can't believe you can't find a guy to placehold as interim GM with the shortest of leashes to make deadline deals. If Pelley is running the show, let's get on with the re-build.

I don't think the team can be re-tooled. Too many flaws.

Changing the GM mid-season seemed to bring greater success in Buffalo.

I suspect we have the DNA for that.
They have the DNA to do whatever is the worst possible outcome for the franchise from the fans perspective. So for example, they totally have the DNA to do a run of 5 or 6 wins, thus giving the internal management a thought that they are close, thus leading management to do something stupid, thus infuriating fans more. That is their DNA. To do whatever brings the fans the most pain.

He's more of a capologist than a guy who can run a team. I'm not sure we want his first kick at the can to be as important a deadline as this one could very well be.
Pridham's reportedly the highest paid non-GM executive in the NHL so I have a hard time believing his roles and responsibilities on the team haven't significantly expanded over the past 11.5 years. Especially when deciphering the CBA isn't exactly as rare (and therefore valuable) of a skill as it was in 2014. He's widely considered a future GM somewhere.

Now I don't know if that should definitely be here, but I do think he's more than qualified to handle selling off a few non-major assets at the deadline. It's not like he'll be responsible for trading Matthews.

Tossing grenades since 2013!
I've said this before and I'll say it again. I've been done with Morgan for a while now. If he doesn't want to move on and we don'y buy him out why don't they move him to the wing. Our forward depth sucks mind you all our depth sucks but he can't be any worse seriously then some of these plugs we are playing. Some forwards are going to be gone come next season either let go or traded. We really don't have anything in the pipeline. Unless we get some good returns which I don't see happening mostly picks coming back then start him up front next year if again he doesn't want a trade. What can it hurt moving him up front? Too many mistakes on D to keep him there.

Except Kekalainen hasn't really done anything yet.
I think the expectation there is that Adams was viewed by the players maybe as a major part of the organizational problems and it helped with an emotional boost. I don't doubt that players are maybe frustrated with the direction of the franchise but I don't think we can really say that Treliving is the reason the Leafs are bad.

Stolarz sucks this year. He was a great goalie last year. Tanev was a massive part of the team last year. Marner really wasn't Treliving's fault.

We can dispute how he used the money he had available but who were the better players to acquire in the offseason. I don't think that Treliving is enough of a motivating factor to turn the team around.

We were so close just last year, and the team is very similar to last year's team, except now we suck and everyone's fired? I think we're overreacting a bit. Woll and Stolarz have only been great and healthy as a duo, and just recently, they have both been rostered at the same time. If we have a healthy Tanev (or Tanev-like player) and a healthy Woll/Stolarz to start a season, we're probably a playoff team.

I don't think you blow it up, but you do decide to flush this season down the toilet TODAY and recalibrate with assets you don't see or don't want coming back. Zero reason anyone walks like the last 9 years because we know how this season ends.
