Jays discussing 3-way deal for Jay Bruce?

The Jays are apparently deep into discussions with Cincinnati and the Angels about a 3 team deal that would see the Jays land Bruce, while parting with Saunders (and, I'm assuming, other as of yet unidentified pieces). If true, it would give the Jays an even more impressive offence than they had last season - even with Bruce's less than excellent past couple seasons.

I wonder if there's a little Life After Edwin thinking going into this.

I was thinking more Life After Jose, considering his comments today, but, possibly, yeah.

Depends what else they want besides Saunders. If it were Saunders for Bruce straight up I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. Sure Bruce's numbers have fallen the last couple years, BUT he is still younger than Saunders and put up power numbers that Saunders hasn't even sniffed yet (and may never). Lets not forget about that bone on bone situation in Saunders knee either. Like I said it really depends what the rest of the price would be...

I do agree that this could be planning ahead for either Edwin or Jose not being around after this season (maybe not around after July 31 if it looks like we could lose one of them for nothing).
Jose wants to be paid and Edwin has already said he won't negotiate an extension once the regular season starts so the clock is ticking.

Good power numbers but his last two years has had an OBP less than .300. I'd pass.

I take Bruce over Saunders 10 times out of 10, and the additional pieces are likely to be organizational filler types/depth prospects (if there even are any). The OBP numbers can be improved in the right situation, and with the Jays not needing him to a prime offensive producer plus the depth they have, he's likely to see a lot more hittable pitches. Also, getting to hit regularly in Fenway and as a lefty at the new Yankee Stadium (plus the Dome, of course) should also help some.

So would Bruce or Jose play LF in this scenario? Both have played there before, albeit not very often.

But yeah I would easily do this deal if it's just Saunders and filler going the other way.

Pillar(?)
Donaldson
Bautista
Encarnacion
Tulowitzki
Bruce
Colabello
Martin
Goins/Travis

For a whole season this time. Pretty deadly.

Lou's running a pretty loose ship.

I guess it's an insight into the way thing go with MLB teams because to me it seems like checking out Saunders' health would be the first thing done in any such discussion. Certainly before it got to the point where it was being talked about to media.
