It is so hard for me to not flip out because of the PK.  3.5 years of Ron Wilson, worst PK every year pretty much.  How can he not figure it out?  I know they must be practicing it, but it just gets worse.

It goes all the way back to Quinn though, 20th in 03/04 and 24th in 05/06 under him. He had them singing in 02/03, 3rd in the league but they were 27th and 29th under Maurice...

What you had in 02/03 that was kind of special was Belfour with a .913 sv% on the pk along with some talented players taking first pk duty minutes, Kaberle, Svehla, Sundin and Mogilny. Once the goaltending dried up a bit and the pk'rs changed ( Svehla ) or their ability to play was diminished ( Mogilny ) over time, well it's easy to see looking back and it's a tricky thing to fix without some basic components willing to do the work.

The Canucks are the kind of team that makes you throw-up, scream and cry when watching...and not necessarily in that order. I'd avoid alcohol during this one!

Honestly even 20th or 24th would be a massive improvment.  Likely several wins' worth.  Wilson's PK is in a differently stratosphere.

In case anybody was wondering. Not a huge surprise really.

It's worth keeping in context, Maurice fared no better. It's also a long season, a couple bad games will skew things, if they have it in them to improve like they did for a stretch earlier this year then they should be fine-ish over time.

Primarily they're missing Belfours chops but when you look at the pk configuration from then they're fairly different in terms of talent and determination ( Svehla was a rock ). Also, the 'hook and hold' NHL died in between, the new game is something the Leafs were wholly unprepared for.

It's hard to say how many wins the difference might be, looking at the last game and the one against Washington sure, others not so much. When they were 3rd in the league they gave up 56 ppga while dead last in times shorthanded with 426, two seasons later when they were 24th they gave up 99 ppga and were 19th in times shorthanded with 496. That's a tough trend.

I need to watch more Devils games, I honestly cannot understand their numbers. Brodeur is .882 ESs% yet .969 on the pk, Hedberg is .913 ESs% and .925 pk.

Despite the Canucks complaining about the hit?

With our PK we have to stay out of the box and against the diving Canucks that may be a real problem.

Maybe they should turn off the AC units in the ACC. They do create
a breeze you know.

I see we are in the pre-holiday GDT doldrums.  Not even >1 page before a Sat nite game against the despis?d Nux.
