I'm surprised Columbus didn't have to throw something else in here. If Laine can get back to his rookie scoring days this could look like a terrific trade for them. I guess the flip-side is can he get those numbers playing under Torts and with Domi as his 1C.

I mean it is pretty hilarious that these players got moved for each other after they were drafted one after the other.

This deals leans Columbus imo. Dubois is good but Laine is such a crazy scoring threat.

Value wise yes, but I also think it'll work out better for Winnipeg. As everyone says, Laine and Torts isn't exactly a match made in heaven. While for Winnipeg this trade drops Dubois into a 2C position behind Scheifele and puts them in the upper echelon of teams with the best centre depth.

Also, I've got a feeling that Dubois is going to really appreciate being in a lockerroom led by Blake Wheeler.

I'm not so sure Laine and Torts will be long for each other.

Yeah. I can?t see that being a great relationship. Laine?s going to want out of Columbus in a year or two if Torts is still around.

Smart deal for Winnipeg in the sense that Laine and Roslovic weren't really in the lineup for them to begin with, so when Dubois does actually pass the quarantine, it's like adding without subtracting.

Winnipeg got rooked. I've never cared for Laine something about him with his cockiness saying he should have been drafted first but I think a one for one deal was fair. He's had some issues but if he can get back some of his scoring which I think he can Columbus wins this deal. I always said he's a one trick pony, great shot and PP specialist but he's a game changer when on his game. Throwing Roslovic in doesn't make sense. Dubois hasn't lived up to his billing in my opinion and don't think he's that bonafide franchise centre. Plus he wanted out so overpayment in my opinion.

I agree here. Throwing in Roslovic gives the edge to CBJ. It's funny how people say if Laine can get back to scoring....Yes he hasn't matched his rookie output but this guy still scored 28 in 68 games last year.  I actually think he'll do well under Torts and he'll be on the 1st line.
Probably a good trade for both teams in the end though.

Seems like I?m one of the few who actually likes this for Winnipeg.

While I think Winnipeg totally botched up Laine and gave up way too soon on him, nor did they get full value for him, I think they are better because of it.

Dubois to me seems like a dynamic talent who was just in a wrong situation (yes, through fault of his own too), and should thrive on the Jets. While I think Laine is going to a situation/team as well as under a coach in which he won?t realize his full offensive potential. He has Rocket Richard potential ? the Blue Jackets nor Torts seem like the place for him to go for it.

I suppose the most ironic thing of it all is that Dubois is exactly the type of centre Laine needs, and vice versa.

I think Columbus wins this trade hands down.  I like Dubois and he could develop into more but I?m just not convinced he is going to reach PPG heights in his career.

It's hard to see this as a bad trade for Winnipeg in the sense that while I think Laine is a good player I'm pretty skeptical there's a fair big money long term deal you could sign him to right now that would look right. Everyone here is "Well, if he gets back to scoring what he did..." but do you sign him on that basis? Because Laine at, like, 7 years/10.5 per is a pretty dicey proposition even if you think the last few years were just a hiccup.

That said while I think Dubois can be an excellent #2 C it's really hard to think Winnipeg couldn't have done better here. Only getting a third thrown in seems pretty weak.
