Jays just announced it as Revere and a PTBNL for Storen.

Well, as long as that PTBNL isn't any of their better prospects (which I can't imagine it is), I'll take it.

That's the big one to me. There have been times in the past where the PTBNL is useless but there have also been some higher tier prospects that get dealt.
I like the move. They got a top level reliever who has a fair argument for being the closer next year. I think Pompey is ready to be the LF at this point so it's not like we are going back to having Carrera in LF full time (although I still think that Saunders is going to be awful in ST and not get a roster spot).

Why do you think he'll be awful? Due to being off so long?

He now has less joint space and it ages his knee. For him to still have issues with the knee after the surgery to the point of being shut down from early May was just not a great sign. I also haven't heard anything about his recovery to indicate that he is back to 100% even now. There was talk that he was going to be ready by September but that clearly didn't happen.
I know he had a few decent years in Seattle too but overall he's still a career .230 AVG .301 OBP hitter. He's also not the greatest defensively and taking a bite out of his mobility isn't going to help that even if he is playing LF and not CF.
So really it just boils down to, I think his knee isn't going to be in the greatest of shape and I wasn't a huge fan of Saunders to begin with. There isn't really a reason his knee can't be perfectly fine though, I'm just wary of it.

On the surgery, the surgeon said the cartilage was so damaged that there was no choice between repairing or removing the portion of the meniscus. So it wasn't really a short-term fix, they decided that there was no option other than what they did.

Just for clarity, I just meant that any time you take out the meniscus it's only a short term fix in general in terms of further wearing of the knee. If you can sew the meniscus down (red zone tears) the durability of the knee is better than removal. So I'm thinking of the short-term fix more in terms of Saunders career rather than the intended quick return to the field. Saunders is more prone to arthritis and further breakdown of the knee. It isn't less stable but it's not great and with the Jays playing on a turf surface that's not a great combination.
While the knee injury itself was a fluke (sprinkler head), Saunders does have a bit of a history with injuries too, shoulder and back problems that have caused him to miss considerable amounts of time.
Darryl said:Liked Revere as well but OF is a the one place they still have prospect depth. Pompey or Saunders maybe even a camp invite can hold the fort. Guys like Smith Jr, Alford and Davis on the farm will be ready soon enough.
