Abandonment of HNIC?

I seen yesterday that Scott Morrison has left CBC for Sportsnet. Jeff Marek had already left for Sportsnet and today on radio I heard that Pierre Lebrun is now going to be on TSN.

Is this planning ahead for the CBC losing HNIC similar to Dennis Beyak
leaving 640AM due to 640AM not expecting to re-bid for the Leafs radio rights?

Too many assumuptions with not enough substance.  There could be plenty of other factors involved in the network changeups don't jump to conclusions.  I don't see cbc letting HNIC go since it is their biggest source of revenue.

It's more likely that these guys are just leaving for better, more fulfilling gigs than the once a week nature of HNIC.

Yup. There's also more potential for upward movement in other places, whereas on CBC it's the Ron & Don show and will be for quite some time.

Yeah, Elliotte F. probably has the only other good gig there and I would think they will hold on to him.

I agree.  Back in the old day before a gazillion channels, CBC Hockey Night in Canada was the place to be for hockey.  Nowadays people want to see every single game and CBC isn't broadcasting midweek games.  You get more exposure on one of the full-time sports networks.

I think they are leaving for more exposure too but it's all the credible guys
that are leaving. Does this mean more Milbury now in the 2nd intermission!
:o

Maybe they left after considering what Don Cherry had to say about them? - IIRC he said something to the effect of "...don't we have anything better for them to do than this?" (answering viewers questions via the iDesk)

via andrewxedge tweet,

    @FriedgeHNIC I?m not a huge fan of your television work, but I really respect the fact you didn?t leave HNIC like so many others.

via Elliotte Friedman tweet,

    @andrewxedge thanks, I think

Made me chuckle.
