2025 Blue Jays

From worst to first in the AL East. A nice end to the season. They got it done. What looked like what was going to be another long disappointing season in April and May turned into a season to remember.

Now bring on some post-season baseball!
 
Now is a good time to throw out my...change the wildcard format.

If we go by pure record the AL standings are:

Jays - 94-68
Yankees - 94-68
Mariners - 90-72
Red Sox - 89-73
Guardians - 88-74
Tigers - 87-75

Wild card playoffs start Tuesday.

The 2nd best team in the AL is going to play the 4th best in the AL
The 5th best team in the AL is going to play the 6th best team in the AL

When we go to the AL DS
The 1st place team in the AL will play either the 2nd or 4th best team
The 3rd place team in the AL will play the 5th or 6th best team.

Division winners should get playoff berths but I think teams should reseed based off their record.

The other issue is scheduling. Baseball is notorious for breaks slowing teams down.

Seattle and Toronto won't play again until Saturday. No games are scheduled for Friday and given that its best of 3 they may get 2 off days.

I like that the wildcard is a best of 3 instead of a winner take all but I think they should play Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and the ALDS should start on the Friday.
 
Yankees load the bases loaded in the 9th with no outs and Chapman shuts them down. Boston up 1-0
Detroit eeks out a win against Cleveland. Detroit up 1-0
The Cubs beat the Padres.
The Dodgers trounced the Reds.

Oakland came back to win their wildcard series in 2020 against Chicago after the White Sox won the first game. Every other wild-card series has ended 2-0.

Apparently Yankees are the first team in post-season history to have the bases loaded in the 9th with no outs and not score a run.
 
Good on the Yankees . I hope the Sox win that series just based on New York not allowing Canadians to buy tickets to any potential ALDS game there.

The Jays are doing the same thing...I think it might not be a bad idea given tensions between the 2 countries.

Yankees also restrict ticket sales to most US States, allowing sales to residents of only New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

Yankees have been doing this since 2018. It's just disingenuous PR bs. I think part of the reason they do this is to prevent scalping.

It's all sports too. Ottawa tried to restrict tickets. I think Florida restricted tickets agains the Leafs. Its team trying to maximize a home field and rather than stopping scalping because a lot of those tickets still end up on the secondary market.
