2025 Blue Jays

That they’re counting on him as a starter and come June they’re down a starter?
The Jays aren't flush with quality/reliable pitchers, and it's not like banking on Scherzer is going to break their playoff aspirations.

I'll take my chances on getting whatever they can out of Scherzer. If they need a starter come June, bring someone up or find someone off the scrap heap.

A one-year deal is a minimal to no downside, high reward signing in my opinion.

I agree with everything you’re saying. I’m just not holding my breath that he can last the season. That’s all.

It really feels like this Alonso thing is just waiting for the Mets to give him something slightly better and we are just the last minute backup.

Heyman is reporting Scherzer is a Blue Jay.

So the rotation as of today will be: Gausman - Scherzer - Berrios - Francis - Bassitt

* Manoah potentially available around the trade deadline and Yariel as the stretch/6th starter.

Well, that’s something. Hopefully, he can stay somewhat healthy.

Bergman got 120x3 from Boston. I don’t get how he’s a 40 mil player. Oh well, take what you can get.
I feel like part of it was the BoSox feeling like they needed to make a splashy signing. On a short-term deal, it's probably not a significant overpay, either. If he's still a 4+ WAR guy for the life of the deal, he's a $30-$35 million player.
