I think compliance buyouts were just for right after the lockout - 'compliance' so that if the lockout screwed up your cap you could use a buyout to 'comply' with it, along those lines.  Could be wrong.

Each team were allowed to use 2 compliance buyouts, over the 2 offseasons after the lockout.

Yep, just wanted to know how long they lasted (if a team hadn't used them all, yet).  I think they're over with, but could be wrong.

In case you missed Deebo's reply above yours, teams were given 2 compliance buyouts each to use last summer or this summer. Here's a link: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=675349

Not to drag up on old discussion but I find that it is interesting that Bettman declared today that the Seattle arena isn't done and it won't get done until (or should we say unless) a NBA team is moved back there.  Seeing the people involved in investing in the stadium as well as the hockey people supporting a team going to Seattle I figured it would be already happening.

I wonder if a municipal election will happen and the Seattle arena deal could get struck down?

I still think it would make more sense to see a Pacific team go to Portland Oregon (on the coast just above the 'P' on the map) and share the stadium with the NBA team.  As bustaheims pointed out to me, it would make more sense to re-locate a team there and Kansas City (located just below the 'C' on the map and perfectly between St Louis and Colorado) rather than an expansion team since it cost more for expansion fees.  I still nominate the 2 Florida teams.

Then Quebec City and Hamilton/Markham could pay the large expansion fee in a solid northern market and replace the 2 Florida teams currently residing in the northeast Atlantic division putting all 8 teams in the Atlantic division region finally.

2016 World Cup of Hockey to be hosted by Toronto (tentative) presuming there will be such an event....plus other NHL news (from Bettman's state of the league news conference):

The NHL and NHL Players? Association are currently working on the final details of an agreement that will fill out the international calendar for the next several years and believe that the Air Canada Centre is the ideal location to relaunch the World Cup, according to multiple sources familiar with the discussion

...Toronto emerged as the strongest candidate because of the anticipated impact it would have in the world?s largest hockey market. In future, it is believed that cities around the world might be involved a bidding process for the event, which one source indicated could generate as much as $100-million in revenue.

Other league news:

- concussions down 10%
- no expansion plans as of yet
- three outdoor (warm weather markets) games planned for the 2014-15 season
- reinstatement of New Jersey's first pick in the draft because team is under new ownership and also because they were previously penalized enough
- NHL franchise values continue to rise..."If the Clippers are worth $2 billion, we have plenty of franchises that are worth that, if not more,? said Bettman.
- 2017 Winter Classic to (potentially) be hosted by the Maple Leafs including the 2016 World Cup, to coincide with the club's 100th anniversary (in 2017).  The Maple Leafs organization also has plans to host the 2017 All-Star Game as well as being host to the NHL Entry Draft.
- most successful season "in league history" concluding with the Stanley Cup Finals' two largest markets -- New York & Los Angeles.
