I feel bad for Lily.

I went back and looked at the reason for his -2 tonight...he was on the ice for the 2nd and 3rd goals.

On the 2nd, he pinched down the wall with BOTH Kerfoot and Gauthier in support of him back at the line. Florida chips it up the boards past him, it bounces over weak flailing stick swipes from the two forwards, and then it's a 2 on 1 that Freddie makes the first save off the rush and the rebound goes straight to their player for the goal. Lily played it pretty much perfectly the way he was supposed to.

On the 3rd goal, he angles his man to the outside of the f&@#%ing faceoff circle exactly the way he was supposed to and then Freddie lets in an absolutely atrocious goal that no NHL goalie should allow. Again, I don't see how Lily could have played that one any better than he did.

He wasn't all that stellar in some of his other shifts, and I get why Keefe might have benched him, but those two goals were definitely not his fault.
His mistake on the 2nd goal against the Leafs was once the guy shoots, he needs to find the player. Def a tough play though for him. He wasn't "bad" by any stretch but Keefe/Hackstol doesn't trust him enough yet. Hey it's all part of the learning process. I thought Sandin played well as did all the D.
Oh..I thought that was him pinching down the boards, but now that I watch that again I see he was the one to come across the ice and try to take away Hoffman's Vatrano's shot. The rebound guy looks like he was Kerfoot's Marincin's responsibility.

Lots of giveaways in the first, 1 real shitty goal on Freddie but the boys didn't fold. They pressed on and were the better team pretty much the whole game. Leafs kept at their game and were rewarded in the 3rd. Good game, good result.

Nice game from the Leafs especially considering they are playing at least 2 and maybe 3 guys who are not NHL defensemen at this point. Marincin....not an NHL (regular) defender. Liljegren...doesn't look ready to me. Rosen, I thought he looked OK but probably not really an NHL defender. On the other hand, I thought Holl and Dermott looked solid which is nice because Holl has looked a little shaky lately.

Loving Kapanen's game lately. Who knew we had an enforcer in the lineup all this time?

Hyman...what an animal! He has really evolved/developed as a player over the past couple of years. No longer a black hole on offense.

It's funny re-reading this thread when you weren't in it at all and didn't watch.  Guys calling for Andersen to be pulled at 3-1 and ultimately he hangs in there and Leafs win.  The roller coaster of emotions

I don't get to watch as many games live anymore sadly, but I do watch either the condensed game or the game in 6 the next morning (or occasionally PVR and watch a whole game if I manage to avoid the result).

I do like to read through the thread after and it is fun watching the emotions as you say and is a nice way to add a little something extra to the interpretation of the full game if you've only seen highlights.

It's also much more pleasant the last few games for obvious reasons of lack of certain posters. I had not enjoyed it for a while.
I Saw Jay McClement Score.

The 3rd goal was one that Ayres could have stopped with his eyes closed and then for the rest of the period Freddie looked really shaky, letting out some bad rebounds or having pucks squirt loose from him when he was trying to cover them. He just looked completely rattled and probably would have let in another one if the Panthers had managed a half-decent shot on net.

He looked much more settled in the 2nd, helped along by a concerted effort from the guys in front of him (Panthers only managed 4 shots in the period) and I guess that fed his confidence because he looked much more like his normal self in the 3rd.

All things considered, I would have yanked him after that 3rd goal but in hindsight Keefe did the right thing by leaving him in there and making the whole team battle through it. Will be a good lesson to think back on the next time they hit some adversity.

The first goal wasn't his fault.  The 2nd goal had some bad defensive zone coverage but was also a very bad rebound kicked right into the slot.  The 3rd goal was atrocious and then he followed that up with 2-3 more plays that probably should have resulted in a goal if not for puck luck.   He looked lost in the 1st period.  The Leafs completely shut Florida down in the 2nd and then Freddy was good in the 3rd.

Andersen with 3 or more goals given up in 6 of his last 7 games.   I just don’t understand why we are riding him into the ground during a stretch of hockey where he has not been good

Should have pulled him already but probably storm off and pout. Pick up your f'n game.

What makes you believe that Andersen is the type to storm off and pout?

Maybe he's projecting.

Honestly, I was a little surprised that Andersen wasn't pulled after the 3rd goal, just because seemed like the game could get out of hand quickly. I'm glad Keefe stuck with him though, he was solid the rest of the way.

Tough being a coach. Imagine he pulls Andersen and Leafs play same game and win with Campbell. Suddenly a full blown controversy is alive.  He stuck to his guns and was rewarded for it. Andersen probably feeling good about himself too after the shakey first.
