That's a lot to lose that cap hit and add Kase.

Is it really? I mean Andersson looks pretty underwhelming and the 1st is going to be super low. Then again they are still retaining salary....

On the surface this may be worse than Marleau.

With the salary retention, it's more than I'd give up. While Andersson isn't going to be a superstar, he looks like could have an NHL future. Kase is a good 2nd liner, but, I'm not sure I give up a 1st and a decent prospect to for marginal cap savings and an upgrade to the 2nd line.

It's always going to be tough to compare Marleau to other salary dumps. The Leafs had a short window to move him and it was clear any team that did acquire him was going to have to immediately buy him out (otherwise he wouldn't have ok'd the trade). So they were trading $6.25mil of completely dead cap space that wouldn't be moveable again after.

A guy like Backes can either play for the Ducks and get moved again potentially or he might even just wind up on LTIR next season (he only played 16 games this season) and he ends up being only kinda irritating to Anaheim's cap guy.

Backes is actually (supposedly) healthy. It's just that he was sent to the AHL but told not to report. He has a long concussion history, and the Bruins were likely trying to protect him from suffering from another one this season, but, right now, he might not be an LTIR candidate . . .

It should be noted that Kase has also been out with a concussion for the past 2 weeks (suffered from a hit by Muzzin actually). He also has a history of concussions. I think he's an example of a guy who's gone from underrated to overrated kinda quickly.

I'm more upset they got out of the Backes deal, but I guess with just 1 year left there was bound to be a team out there who would take it.

He'll be 36 years old next season with a long history of injuries. All the Ducks need to say is his back hurts and they'll give the thumbs up to LTIR him.
