Kerfoot was 56% on face-offs last season. Back to back 40-point seasons. Was just over 50% in possession last season. The drop from Kadri to him probably isn't that massive.

Maybe. But I worry we may be judging Kadri too much on a down year.
He's approaching 30 and we had to roll his talent at some point. You have to wonder if his best seasons are behind him.

This one hurts. Kadri genuinely loved playing on the Leafs and grinded it out through some brutal years. His possession, hands and hockey intelligence were amongst the best on the team (the guy can really thread a pass). But he was valuable so I guess this is a pill the Leafs had to swallow.

I donít think we have a single forward left capable of throwing a body check.

Yeah, the sandpaper factor is still an issue here, but I get the feeling Dubai isn't done yet.

But really, is anyone talking about the fact that Kerfoot doesn't have a contract?

Kerfoot would be a really good defensive 3C. Evolving Wild has been pushing for Selke consideration for him.

Barrie is right handed Rielly, so maybe he plays with Muzzin in an ideal situation. We probably go to the mat to extend him if it works out.

While Dermott is down:
Muzzin - Barrie
Rielly - Ceci
Marincin - Holl
Don't see that bottom pairing. From what I heard today, Harpur is better then both. I'm also going out on a limb and saying I think Borgman gets a chance next year along with Liljegren and one of them starts the year with the Leafs.

And Barrie needs one for next season and can just leave.

Kadri and Gardiner were two of my favourite Leafs for the past decade. This move directly moves one out and indirectly closes the door on the other returning. So it's a bummer, but at the end of the day our team is better now.

I didn't think there was anything physically that looked out of whack and his ice time was fairly consistent. His shooting percentage just took a nose dive.

And he was providing very good value for money. I think Barrie almost certainly fills a more pressing need and obviously will give the Leafs a very good value year but right now the Leafs are going to live and die by getting outsized contributions from guys on cheap contracts.

I mean Hyman can still throw his weight around, but Kadri really struggled when there was no one else on his line to go to bat with him (Komarov) and he felt like he needed to do it all. Might as well just change the whole team style to annoyingly stoic, which is what we were really excellent at.

He won't come cheap, but I'm going to guess he'll find throwing bombs up the ice to Matthews/Tavares/Nylander/Marner pretty fun.

Can't say I'm impressed with that.

Would he take a 1 year?  For fun?

Carolina and Calgary are almost certainly the two teams. I don't think Carolina would have given up Pesce, it probably would have been Faulk. And for Calgary we're looking at Brodie or Hamonic. And I'd take Barrie over those guys. So thanks for using the NTC Naz.

Maybe they just add that stuff at the deadline, given the reg season isn't much of a physical game.
