Great, two years in a row without a first round pick. This is pretty shit.

I guess it will all even out when the Leafs re-coup 4-1st round picks for Marner.

Yeah, I’m sure that’s Dubas’ master plan. 🙂

That's a shit load to give up for one year of Marleau. Jesus.

I could not agree more. This is a stupid, stupid trade. I would have thrown in no higher than a 2nd rounder and more likely two third round picks over two years or I would have kept him.

Why couldn't we take a younger (i.e., some one signed to a contract under age 35) player back as part of a salary dump by some team and then just buy the guy and or waive him to the AHL?

You know Dubas just Can't do a deal on his own right? We needed that Cap Space and a deal might not work after July 1st.

I think that is a fantastic deal. We lose a pick that might never play and probably 3 or 4 years away at best. Better than losing roster players.

Uh, well so far that roster has not won us a single round of playoff games -- not one round -- so just maybe we are over valuing our roster players.

From the sounds of things, Dubas has been talking to a lot of teams.  If there was a better deal out there for Marleau, I find it hard to believe he simply overlooked it.

And that draft pick has not played and might not ever play one NHL game. You know that money is possibly needed for Marner as well right?

Or maybe there’s a lot of luck in playoff hockey.

You might think that but after not covering himself with glory on the Nylander negotiations, opting for Sparks over McElhinney and then extending Sparks and doing so after a less than adequate 2018-19 performance, I have my doubts.

Too bad, I had high hopes for Dubas but he has misspent my confidence in him.

Dubas has made a few moves that should be placed in the "not good" category now. Not a great sign in his first year on the job.

At least he didn't sign an aging star to a big contact that's one year too long. Save that bad move for the veterans.

Yeah, I think this little move takes a bit of luster off the boy wonder.

Unless ... there's an agreement in place for a separate deal for more from Carolina.

Why would Marleau accept a trade to Carolina when by all accounts he wanted back West.

Something's fishy here.  At least I hope it is.

He agreed cause they agreed to buy him out. Now he asks sj for a one year deal at a rock bottom price.

Surprised Carolina did this before at least some of the bonus was paid out.
