I find it makes the team sound like an Arena Football team

I really tend to not like the singular collective team names but this one would be weirder than most. Most of the others are either sort of a concept(Magic, Wild) or they're a naturally occurring weather phenomenon(Lightning, Heat, Thunder) that can't really be expressed in the plural.

But a or the Kraken is a singular thing that could be easily expressed in the plural so why wouldn't it be? I mean, people have made fun of the Raptors for years from taking their name from a sort of fad interest of a creature from a popular movie but this seems exclusively designed to be just about being able to say one particular line from a not very popular movie.

Along that line, Nik:

"I'm proud to be the first captain of the Kraken"

"coming to town tonight is/are the Kraken(s)"???

This is not well thought through.

I was pretty young but I thought Clash of the Titans was a very popular movie. I mean the 1981 version of course.

While the creature is kind of cool, it's a little unexpected, especially after consulting with native artists here. I lived in Seattle for about 25 years now and Kraken is about the last thing that comes to mind. Which is fine, obviously, just surprising.

I hope they choose it.  Tennyson's sonnet "The Kraken" is really good, and was memorably set to music by Benjamin Britten.

To bad the Sounders was eaten up by the MLS team.  That was the best and most appropriate name for a team outside of the Seahawks.  A friend of mine has his own rail car called the Puget Sound, when he lived in the area.

Interesting article here about how Seattle is committed to gender equality in their front office hiring:
