I think they essentially chose Corrado over both. With him and Sandin the Marlies should be able to have 4 defence pairings now to rotate with.
What they going to do when the Borg is recalled?

They almost had to choose Corrado over both.  Both of the other guys have AHL Veteran status.  You can only dress a limited number of AHL veterans per game.  Leafs are always up against that limit (LoVerde, Muller, etc) so unless one of those guys comes out, you aren't really able to play either of the two on PTO's very often.  Corrado is just under the AHL Veteran limit so he can get cycled in regularly.

McElhinney and Pickard likely to hit the waiver wire very soon.

and Sandin will be seeing game action tonight!

Siegel and Mirtle also mentioned in their latest podcast how Barb Underhill actually went to Montreal over the summer to work with Frederik Gauthier for a stretch, and I think it's showing so far. Imagine fast Gauthier + Leivo. Do we have a coach for puckhandling?

I want to bump this video in case some people haven't watched it yet:

Video breakdown of how Rasmus Sandin plays, the defensive decisions he makes, and how he drives play for his team.

If anyone is looking for a summary on how every Marlies player has fared so far this season (including some hand-tracked advanced stats), check out this article from Jeff Veillette/Faceoff Circle:

http://faceoffcircle.ca/2018/11/02/the-marlies-heading-into-winter-fair-road-trip/

It's hosted on a subscription-based blog, but it'll be free-to-read until 7pm tonight.

TREVOR MOORE

The Leafs should absolutely be calling him up to play ahead of Ennis right now. They have an open spot on the roster with Matthews out, I don't know why they wouldn't give Moore a shot.

The article also reminded me that Liljegren is still eligible for the World Junior's this year. He and Sandin could potentially be a pairing there if the Leafs let them both go (I imagine they will).

TREVOR MOORE

The Leafs should absolutely be calling him up to play ahead of Ennis right now. They have an open spot on the roster with Matthews out, I don't know why they wouldn't give Moore a shot.

A couple of reasons I'd spitball to not have Moore up right now (even though I'd much prefer it):
- No yo-yo youth (of which Moore is, nominally). Similar to Johnsson last year and Kapanen before him, they probably want to see him dominate the level for a long stretch playing big minutes and building confidence; he's shooting nearly 25% right now, which can't possibly be a real number unless he's only ever going to be shooting from the slot off Royal Road passes or tips from the point.
- How much more of a boost overall does Moore have over Ennis in the 6-10 minutes of TOI per game? Ennis is not detrimental, just forgettable and the line is apparently designed to make sure nothing happens. I'd want Moore to be positioned to generate, but I don't think they'd slot him in over Marleau or Hyman just yet (if ever).
- Marlies are struggling a bit to win, and the front office values winning throughout the system, so I think it's an easy tradeoff here
- The coaching staff is babying a handful of freshly graduated prospects in Kapanen, Johnsson, Dermott, Ozhiganov, Holl, Gauthier, and sort of Leivo. They've shown a willingness to bend over almost backwards to shelter the kids heavily and adding more bodies to shelter is not what they want to focus on. Kapanen's already been pushed higher than they want due to the injury and impasse but they clearly want him on the PK training program
- Ennis is a free-agent signing looking to rehab his reputation and I think the Leafs are amenable to giving him as much of a chance to do so as an asset to trade later or actually keep for the season if he plays up to the level he can (see Matt Martin).
