Congratulations to the USA, the 2015 Women's World Cup champions!

For an unprecedented third time, the US has won the Women's World Cup and with a near perfect record in this tournament, but not before routing Japan 5-2 to take the championship trophy.

What a performance from the Americans.  Carli Lloyd with three goals (and tournament MVP -- Golden Ball Award), and Hope Solo (chosen tournament's top goalkeeper -- Golden Glove Award).
The US was never in question as the Americans took charge on the field from the get-go.  It was never any doubt just who the best team was in this game and the USA proved it with aplomb over a hapless Japan.

President Obama  @POTUS
What a win for Team USA! Great game @CarliLloyd! Your country is so proud of all of you. Come visit the White House with the World Cup soon.

Well done, ladies.  Plus, not to mention the 54,000+ fans that packed B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver.  An awesome sight for a Women's World Cup Final.  Not surprising that this tournament has set new attendance records.  Well done, Canada!

As a footnote, Canadian defender Kadeisha Buchanan was named top young player of the tournament.  At least the Canadians won something of merit, other than the disappointing exit in the Quarter-Finals. Oh well....

Canada's Quarter-Final exit didn't sit too well with Canada Soccer president Victor Montagliani:

Obviously when youíre hosting an event ó it doesnít matter what sport youíre in ó and you donít win it or get to a final, it is a missed opportunity," said Montagliani. "I donít think thereís any way to sugar-coat that."

"Our goal was always to be (in the final)...and also the secondary goal was to be (in the semis)...said Montagliani. "We didnít succeed, so from a micro level itís been a difficult pill to swallow."

"The team did get better as the tournament went on," he said. "I think we need to use this as a learning experience, not only from a World Cup perspective, but tournament play, and build on it and build upon the disappointment."

And according to Canada Soccer secretary-general Peter Montopoli:

...total tally...to have sold about 1.35 million tickets for the tournamentís 52 matches, or about 90 per cent of the goal of 1.5 million tickets. It should be noted that FIFA counts doubleheaders as two tickets.

Apart from the menís World Cups, Montopoli said that number would make the event the most attended FIFA tournament in history.

All in all, a success!
